Michael Sabones, meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in North Webster, said 2012 was at or near record-setting for heat. The drought was brought on, in part, by the warm winter in 2011-12. The slow-melting snow pack is what helps with the soil’s deep moisture.
This absence contributed to the drought.
