Elsa Marie Rodriguez-Kahn, 50, of Fort Wayne, was called home after a courageous battle with cancer Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at home with her family by her side. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church.
She worked at G.M. in the human resources department as a benefits representative.

The Lady Eagles dropped both games, falling to 59-54 to Andrean in the opening game and 58-44 to Portage in the afternoon session.

COLUMBIA CITY â Dustin, 37, and Amanda, 31, Petrosky are the parents of a growing family in Columbia City. They are expecting for the fifth time â from China, that is.
The Petroskys have built their home around children adopted through the stateâs foster program and now through an international adoption.
âMy heart is breaking for orphans in China,â Amanda said.
WHITLEY COUNTY â Residents of a southeast Whitley County home escaped the burning house without injury, but left their home heavily damaged.
The house, which was located between County Roads 300 and 400 E. on Ind. 114, was damaged by a fire which began in the chimney Thursday morning at 8 a.m.
Firefighters from Jefferson, Columbia and Washington townships in Whitley County responded to the blaze at 3391 E. Ind. 114, along with departments from Allen and Huntington Counties.
Christian James Yahr, infant son of Vicar Karl and Andrea Pfleghaar Yahr, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at Childrenâs Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. Christian was born Oct. 11, 2012, in Kansas City.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sisters, Theresa, Melissa and Samantha, all of Columbia City; his grandmothers, Alice Pfleghaar of Jordan, Minn. and Janice Yahr of Daytona Beach Fla.; his aunts, Sara Pfleghaar of Shakopee, Minn. and Kim (Phil) Cordova of North Platte Neb. and several cousins. Charles E. Burelison, 81, of Columbia City, passed away at 4:50 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at his home. Born April 20, 1931, in Eaton, he was the son of Elmer Virgil âJackâ and Lillian Esther (Mumaugh) Burelison.
He attended Northside High School, Fort Wayne and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. On July 14, 1951, he married Barbara A. Middleton at Concordia Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne and they have always lived in Whitley County. For 35 years he worked at Dana Corporation, Churubusco.

COLUMBIA CITY â The Beatles wrote a song about it. Teenagers dream about it. Vacations begin and end with it. Driving a car. For Paul Gates, 83, of Columbia City, driving was a pleasure. Gates remembers his first car, a 1932 Chevy bought in 1947.
âCars were a lot different back then,â Gates said. âThey were fast enough. Now a days these cars can go way too fast.â

Shelley S. Zawacki-Boggess, 51, of Columbia City, passed away at 4:38 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at her home. Born Nov. 10, 1961, in Whitley County, she was the daughter of Bill L. Maloney and Marilyn R. (Yeatts) Maloney-Schafer.
Born and raised in the Churubusco area, she moved to Chicago in 1985 where she lived for 23 years before moving to Florida for two years and finally returning to Whitley County.
Allen Fugate, 86, of Washington Township, died at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, at his home. He was born Oct. 8, 1926, in Jackson, Breathitt County, Kentucky a son of George and Karsan (Miller) Fugate.
His formative years were spent in Kentucky where he completed his education.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. On April 6, 1947, he was united in marriage to Clara Ellen Hawn. They always made their home on the same farm in Washington Township. Mrs. Fugate died Jan. 28, 2010.
