COLUMBIA CITY â€” A stolen vehicle found its way into Whitley Countyâ€™s License Branch Monday night after a four-mile police pursuit at 11 p.m.
Danny Rose, 20, of Columbia City, was arrested on charges of vehicle theft, reckless driving and resisting law enforcement after he drove into the Whitley County Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) on Countryside Drive in Columbia City.
Officials say Rose allegedly stole the vehicle from an ex-girlfriend, and was suicidal, prompting police to attempt to locate him.
Thomas W. Hart, 75, of Kendallville, died Sunday, July 21, 2013, at 7:45 a.m. in his residence. He was a lifetime area resident.
Mr. Hart honorable served in the National Guard from 1956 to 1960.
He worked at Newnam Foundry, Kendallville Furniture, and retired as plant operator for the City of Kendallville Water Plant.
He was a member of Liberty Free Will Baptist Church in Wolcottville.
Tom enjoyed southern gospel music, carpentry work, mowing, gardening, and was an avid NASCAR fan. He dearly loved his grandchildren.
Mary Ellen Rudisel-Jordan, 61, of Warsaw, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013, as the result of injuries received in an vehicle accident.
Mary Ellen was born July 23, 1951, in South Bend, to Raymond and Mary Ann (Summy) Gradeless.
She was salutatorian in the 1969 graduating class of LaVille High School. She attended Manchester College and in 1995 she earned her degree from Ball State Universityâ€™s Architectural School.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Whitley Countyâ€™s 4-H Fair ended Thursday with its annual auction.
After final numbers were tallied, the total money brought in by the auction was $372,968.59.

COLUMBIA CITY â€” As part of the Whitley County 4-H Fair, rabbits were judged and critiqued July 13.

Lincolnway District of Anthony Wayne Area Council held its 37th Annual Cub Scout Day Camp with 244 campers registered for 2013.
The camp has seen over 200 campers each year for about 20 years.

COLUMBIA CITY â€” Personal safety concerns are on the rise as crime has been more violent and frequent in Whitley County recently.
With sexual attacks against minors repeatedly reaching the inside of Whitley County courtrooms, some citizens have started asking, â€śWhat can we do to keep ourselves and our kids safe?â€ť

COLUMBIA CITY â€” According to Columbia City Park Director Mark Green, if the July 3 fireworks at Morsches seemed smaller â€” itâ€™s because they were.
Green said part of the fireworks budget will be used for the fall festival, which will be returning to the city this year.
In 2012, the city held the Whitley County Fall Festival in September. This was an opportunity for citizens to see a fireworks display and enjoy other activities at Morsches Park. There were no Independence Day fireworks in 2012 due to drought conditions.
