James Robert âTarzâ Kissinger, 74, of Columbia City, known by his neighbors as the âphony farmer,â died at his residence at 2:40 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012.
He was born in Warsaw on May 25, 1938, the son of the late Claude Earl and Lois Eleanor (Hurd) Kissinger.
He spent his childhood in the Tri-Lakes area and lived his entire lifetime in Columbia City, where he attended Columbia City High School. On May 10, 1958, he married Julie J. Quinn at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, Columbia City.
Jeanette Adele Horrell, 86, of Howe, formerly of Rome City and Kendallville, passed away at 11:40 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, at Life Care Center of LaGrange.
Born on July 7, 1926, in Columbia City, she was the daughter of Lawrence E. and Pearl Beatrice (Blew) Rubrake.
Jeanette grew up in Whitley County, attending the McCellan and Collins schools, graduating from Larwill High School with the Class of 1942.
SOUTH WHITLEY â Hildreth J. Wolfe, 86, of South Whitley, died at 8:06 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne where she was admitted on Friday.
She was born July 2, 1926, in Cleveland Township, a daughter of Edgar A. and Nellie (Ward) Sherbahn. She attended South Whitley schools graduating from South Whitley High School in 1944.
She completed her schooling at Huntington Beauty College.
On July 20, 1945, she was united in marriage to Galen Wolfe, Jr.
Allison Dawn Rainey 38 From Columbia City died Friday Sept. 7, 2012.
Survivors include a daughter, Lauren Rainey and son, Justin Bechler both of Columba City; Allisonâs mother, Barbara Rainey, New Haven; sister, Amy Fowler of Columbia City; brother, Mark Rainey of Fort Wayne and Allisonâs fiance, Jim Bechler of Columbia City.
Preferred Memorials in lieu of flowers should go to the educational fund for Lauren and Justin at the Three Rivers Federal Credit Union.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
James G. âJimâ Ramey, 86, of LaFontaine, died at 6:15 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at Millerâs Merry Manor East in Wabash.
He was born Aug. 15, 1926, in Grundy, Va., to Wyatt and Lucy (Stiltner) Ramey.
Jim married Bonnie Pefley on June 24, 1970 in Wabash. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the 19th field artillery. He worked for 18 years in the coal mines of Virginia, and then worked at Fisher Body in Marion for 27 years, retiring in 1988. He attended Grace Fellowship Church and enjoyed wood working.
COLUMBIA CITY â A Tri-Lakes fire leveled a garage and damaged two homes Sunday afternoon near Little Cedar Lake.
Thorncreekâs Fire Department was called to 2716 E. Island Ct., the residence of William Henney Jr., at approximately 4:14 p.m. Sunday for a structure fire.
Two vehicles were destroyed and two houses had smoke and heat damage to the outside, but Green said there was no substantial damage inside the houses.
TTFD was assisted by Smith and Noble Township Fire Departments, along with Whitley County EMS and the Whitley County Sheriffâs Department.
COLUMBIA CITY â The WCCS board and administrators met at the Eagles Nest Event Center Friday for a brainstorming work session to discuss the corporationâs vision and mission statements.
âWe basically want to talk about our core values,â said OâConnor. âWhat do we value, and what do we really feel is important in our district?â
COLUMBIA CITY â Organizations and representatives of various local companies will all come together Tuesday for the annual United Way Day of Caring, which begins at 7 a.m. with a breakfast at the Whitley County 4-H Fairgrounds.
âThe United Way partners with other groups and corporations to go out in the community and do service projects that various service organizations might need,â said Cindy Baker, UWWCâs executive director.
âSome of these groups have various areas of expertise that can help these organizations.â
COLUMBIA CITY â A Whitley County Woman was arrested early Saturday morning after a crash near Tri-Lakes.
Susan R. Janes, 45, was booked on driving while intoxicated after she crashed her car on Willow Avenue in the Shriner Lake area at approximately 3:25 a.m.
Janesâ passenger, Michael Grim, 47, also of Whitley County, suffered a broken neck and was taken to Parkview Whitley Hospital.
According to a press release from the Indiana State Police, Janesâ vehicle crossed the center line, went over a curb and hit a parked car in a yard.
