Brown to serve as Whitley County Chamber of Commerce executive director
COLUMBIA CITY â€” The Whitley County Chamber of Commerce announced today the selection of Doug Brown to serve as the organizationâ€™s new executive director.
â€śFormer general manager of a local printing company and previous publisher of The Post & Mail newspaper, Brown brings great business experience and community connectivity to the position,â€ť said the county chamber in a press release.

A mangled up pile of rubble was all that was left after an RV flipped off the road near Collamer Monday night.
The Winnebago, that was driven by a local man, according to police, rolled on its top, nearly crushing the driver, on River Road near CR 950 W.
The driver was pinned with thousands of pounds of rubble above him. A tow truck was expedited and the man was extricated within minutes According to witnesses, the driver was speaking after the accident, though occasionally lost consciousness. He was airlifted to Fort Wayne.

SOUTH WHITLEY â€” For 28 years Whitko High School has celebrated budding artists.
Under the tutelage of Walt Malicki, students have been awarded many championships and honors.
This year was no different.
Competing against high school artists in northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio, Rebekah Brenneman won the American Vision Award. Danielle Graves won Gold Portfolio.
Competing in the State Resolution contest, held at the Indiana State House, was Keaton Irwin and Ivory West. They received the Republic of China Awards.
Motorcycles made their way from Fort Wayne to downtown Columbia City for the 2012 Mayorâ€™s Ride on Sunday. The town square hosted vendors and motorcycle enthusiasts all to welcome the collective riders. Event organizers timed the ride to coincide with motorcycle safety month.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Participants in Whitley Countyâ€™s Relay For Life took to the Indian Springs Middle School track, Saturday, for 24 hours in an effort to raise funds for cancer research.
Each lap took them one dollar closer to finding a cure. Partnering with the American Cancer Society, those participating in the event walked as survivors, caregivers or for those who lost their battle to cancer. To make special the memory of those lost to cancer, caregivers released balloons into the sky.
Mary A. Wilson, 84, a resident of Huntertown and widow of Melvin Earl Wilson, passed away at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2012, at her home following a lengthy illness.
She was born on Dec. 2, 1927, in Hartford, Ala., a daughter of Hose and Florence (Cotton) Simmons, and spent her formative years in that area, where she graduated from high school.
On Oct. 23, 1943, she was married in Florida to Melvin Earl Wilson, and moved to Huntertown following her marriage.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” A Pierceton woman was arrested for operating while intoxicated Friday night after she caused an accident in northern Whitley County.
Vickie Krom, 60, pulled into the intersection of Ind. 109 and CR 500 N. when her vehicle was struck by oncoming traffic.
Dora Arispe, a passenger of the victimized car, was the only one injured. The North Carolina resident was transported to Parkview Whitley with head injuries.
KENDALVILLE â€” Churubusco linkster Ryan Mayer is the lone Whitley County golfer to keep his season alive, after placing third in Fridayâ€™s golf sectional, advancing him to regionals.
Mayer fired an 80 on 18 holes at Noble Hawk in Kendallville. His score tied for third. In the play-off, Mayer birdied the first hole to win.
Mayer had an eagle, a birdie and four pars.
He will play in the regionals at Orchard Ridge Thursday at 8 a.m.
The second-best Churubusco golfer was Brad Martin, who shot a 91.
Beau Barkley finished with a 92, Brandon Norris had a 97 and Parker Conrad carded a 100.
