Lorraine A. Willyard, 82, of Columbia City, passed away at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, March 18, 2012, at her home.
Born Aug. 6, 1929, in Churchville, Md., she was the daughter of B.W. and Ada (Blackburn) Parlier.
When she was an infant, she moved with her family to Bedford, Ohio, where she graduated from Bedford High School with the class of 1947. She completed her education when she graduated from Cleveland Bible College, Cleveland, Ohio.
SOUTH WHITLEY â Whitkoâs boys and girls track seasons began Tuesday with wins over Southwood.
The boys won 87-35 and the girls defeated Southwood 83-39. Both teams combined for 26 first-place finishes.
Connor Stouder, Jordan Sims and Micaela Sylvester led the Wildcats, winning two events apiece. Sims and Sylvester swept all four hurdle races. Stouder won the 100- and 200-meter dash.
Alec Wilkinson won the pole vault by five feet with a 12-foot vault. Jude Stieglitz won the 800-meter run with a 2:09.0 time, with teammate Dallas Asher three seconds behind for a second-place finish.
Columbia City Police Officers Jeff Chapman and Shane Caudill investigate the scene of a personal injury accident Monday evening at the intersection of U.S. 30 and W. Lincolnway. At approximately 6:37 p.m., two passenger vehicles and moped collided, injuring two people. Both were transported by EMS to the hospital, according to the CCPD. The accident remains under investigation.
Dorothy O. Lamb, 94, died at Covington Manor Health and Rehabilitation Center in Fort Wayne on Sunday, March 18, 2012.
She was born July 19, 1917, in Adams County to David and Fannie (Huser) Habegger.
Her husband, John W. Lamb passed away in March of 2010.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Brunson of Fort Wayne; three grandsons; four great-grandchildren; and her sister, Juanita Munson of Craigville.
A funeral service is 11 a.m. Thursday with calling one hour prior, at Elzey Patterson Rodak Home For Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne.
COLUMBIA CITY â Robert Foster McLaughlin, 98, formerly of Union Township, died Monday, March 19, 2012, at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence in Kalamazoo, Mich. where he was admitted Wednesday.
He was born July 29, 1913, in Sac City, Iowa, a son of John Walter and Mary Elizabeth (Foster) McLaughlin.
As a young boy, his family moved to Ohio.
He graduated from Antwerp High School and continued his education at Bowling Green College.
On Dec. 9, 1936, he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Price.
They made their home in Antwerp, Ohio until the early 1940s when they moved to Fort Wayne.
COLUMBIA CITY â While Iotron Industries, USA may have been celebrating its grand opening, it was also playing host for the first time, with the guest of honor being the Whitley County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and itâs annual meeting.
This yearâs meeting was titled âOutlook 2012â.
EDC President Alan Tio began by speaking about last yearâs meeting and how at the time, the EDC was just welcoming Iotron into the Whitley County fold.
Tio said it was only fitting a year later, the company was hosting the same event while also cutting the ribbon to open its doors.
COLUMBIA CITY â Clients of Passages in Whitley County surrounded 150 pieces of art as they walked through the display held at the Peabody Public Library Auditorium Friday.
The event, "Paintings, Pickles and Patrick," was a fundraiser for Passages dedicated to helping people with intellectual disabilities or challenges to thrive in the community, as well as in their home life.
Photography, water color, coloring pencil, ceramics, acrylic, jewelry and furniture were among the many items being bid on and observed at the show.
COLUMBIA CITY â Wilma A. Simon, 99, of Jefferson Township, died at 1 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2012, at Renaissance Village where she was admitted Thursday.
She was born July 9, 1912, in Huntington County, a daughter of William E. and Zelma (Bolinger) Blaugh.
Her formative years were spent in Washington Township, where she attended the first eight years of school at 9 & 14.
Her family then moved to Roanoke and she graduated from Roanoke High School in 1930.
On Dec. 30, 1933, she was united in marriage to Russel M. Simon.
Rita M. Armel, 85, of Fort Wayne, passed away at 1:55 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2012, at Covington Manor Nursing Center, Fort Wayne.
Born Oct. 3, 1926, in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of Loren B. and Rosella J. (Arens) Sanders.
She attended Precious Blood School, graduated from Central Catholic High School and continued her education at the University of Oregon.
On Feb. 14, 1946, she married Elmer Dewitt Armel in Fort Wayne.
She lived in Fort Wayne most of her lifetime except for the years she resided in Columbia City from 1973 to 2004.
COLUMBIA CITY â Lavon E. Tucker, 91, of Columbia City, passed away at 2 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2012, at her home.
Born June 21, 1920, in Huntington County, she was the daughter of Henry O. and Bertha (Reinkensmeir) Piepenbrink.
Raised in Huntington County, she attended Huntington High School.
On Aug. 1, 1947, she married Jerry J. Tucker in Waynedale.
She and her husband moved to Allen County where they lived until 1999 when they moved to Whitley County.
For the past several years, she resided at the Lutheran Home, Fort Wayne.
