SOUTH WHITLEY ‚ÄĒ Larry L. Crawford, 62, of South Whitley, died at 2:08 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 2012, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne where he was admitted Wednesday.
He was born Oct. 12, 1949, in Fort Wayne, a son of Phil M. and Genevieve L. (Hertsel) Crawford.
He was a lifelong resident of South Whitley with the exception of a year near Larwill. He graduated from South Whitley High School.
On Oct. 17, 1970, he was united in marriage to Alice F. May. Mrs. Crawford died Aug. 25, 2011.
He was a bassoon and oboe maker for Fox Products for 34 years.
Wednesday was National Ride Your Bike To School Day, and more than 100 students at Mary Raber Elementary School participated in the event.

SOUTH WHITLEY ‚ÄĒ Whitko‚Äôs softball team won 8-2 over Manchester on senior night Wednesday.
The Lady Wildcats faced a 2-1 deficit after the first inning, but retaliated in the third frame, scoring six runs to take a 7-2 lead.
Hannah Himes scored her second run of the night in the fourth frame for the last run of the night.
Pitcher Karissa Olinske also had two runs.
Whitko‚Äôs seniors are Taylor Lott, Karissa Olinske, Audra Day, Lynsi Hicks and Cassie Jones.
The Lady Wildcats are back in action Saturday at Heritage.
COLUMBIA CITY ‚ÄĒ The Whitley County School Corporation Board met Monday evening in a work session that included a summary of this year‚Äôs Eagle Tech operation and also received information on the next phase of renovation and construction at the former Marshall Center.
Eagle Tech Principal Brady Mullett began the session by presenting an overview of some of the successes the program has seen.
COLUMBIA CITY ‚ÄĒ Gertrude A. Brock, 100, of Columbia City and formerly of South Whitley, died at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Parkview Oaks.
She was born Jan. 18, 1912, in South Bend, a daughter of Lee O. and Florence (Carbiener) Walters. She graduated from Central High School in South Bend.
On March 4, 1933, she married Loyal B. Riley.
In 1936 they moved to South Whitley from Nappanee. Mr. Riley died in 1951.
On Jan. 27, 1957, she married Orda Hare. They always made their home in South Whitley. Mr. Hare died in 1974.

After several closer, low-scoring road contests, the Lady Eagles returned to Morsches Park to pound out 14 hits, downing the Lady Chargers 12-0 in five innings.
COLUMBIA CITY ‚ÄĒ A not guilty plea was entered into Whitley County Circuit Court Wednesday for a man involved in a fatal car crash April 29 in southern Whitley County that killed a three-year old boy.
According to officials in the court, the initial hearing for 52-year-old Mya Tha Tun of Fort Wayne, originally scheduled for Monday, was delayed until an interpreter could be located who spoke Burmese.
Once the interpreter was located, a hearing was held Wednesday and an initial plea of not guilty was entered.
Salvation Army open house today
Today the Salvation Army will celebrate its 75th anniversary in Whitley County with an open house from 1 to 5 p.m. The new office is located inside the First Church of God on 1200 DePoy Dr. The open house happens to be on ‚ÄúDonut Day‚ÄĚ so refreshments will be offered. When entering the church, use door five and enter the second door on the left.
Humane Shelter auction and banquet May 19
The Whitley County Human Shelter will hold an auction and banquet May 19 at Eagle‚Äôs Nest Event Center. Doors open at 5 p.m.
COLUMBIA CITY ‚ÄĒ Columbia City‚Äôs Kathy Heuer joined incumbent state legislators state-wide in holding her Republican spot in Tuesday‚Äôs Indiana primary.
Heuer, elected to Indiana‚Äôs House of Representatives in 2010 for the 83rd District, defeated Keith R. Potter handily with 69 percent of the vote (5,967) while on the other side of the aisle, Democrat John A. Good advanced unopposed to face Heuer in November.
As expected, Heuer defeated Potter easily in her home county with 77.8 percent of the vote.
