COLUMBIA CITY â€” Bell-montâ€™s boys basketball team took nearly the same approach Saturday at Columbia City as the girls used Friday against the Lady Eagles â€” a low-possession, low-scoring ball game. Unfortunately for the Braves, they lost 47-38 like the girls did Friday in Decatur.
Columbia City pulled out to a 5-0 lead one minute into the game with a bucket by Daniel Woll in the first possession and a 3-point play by senior Austin Paul.

COLUMBIA CITY â€“ The committee in charge of reviewing bylaws and policies for Whitley County Consolidated Schools received proposed revisions from NEOLA, a consulting firm which provides school districts with a complete service for developing and updating board bylaws and policies, administrative guidelines, forms, staff handbooks and student/parent handbooks in both electronic and printed format. According to Dr. Pat Oâ€™Connor, three of the most important revisions pertain to technology use in schools.
SEBRING, Fla. â€“ The Columbia City High School Alumni Association will host its annual Snowbird Luncheon for all citizens of Whitley County on Tuesday, March 6.
The Florida luncheon and get-together will start at 11:30 a.m. at Homerâ€™s Original Smorgasbord, 1000 Sebring Square, located on the southeast corner of U.S. 27 and Sebring Parkway.
This is billed as â€śa casual get-together for you to enjoy with family, friends, classmates and alumni of Whitley County, Indiana.â€ť
There is no reservation required for this event. Luncheon amount is $10.97 per person, plus tax, at the door.
NORTH WEBSTER â€“ Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a tree stand accident at Tri-County Fish and Wildlife Area near North Webster in Kosciusko County that occurred Saturday, January 7.
Kosciusko County Dispatch received a 911 call at 1:24 p.m. obtaining information that a hunter fell from an elevated location.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) â€” Four soldiers with an Indiana-based National Guard unit were killed in Afghanistan and a fifth was injured when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb as they were working to clear a supply route of the improvised bombs, guard officials said Saturday.
Indiana Adjutant General Martin Umbarger said the four members of the Valparaiso-based 713th Engineer Company died Thursday morning in southern Afghanistan. He said all of the men were combat engineers who specialized in clearing major supply routes.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” A man was saved early Saturday morning night after being trapped inside a silo on Raber Road for nearly eight hours.
Around 4 p.m. Friday, the man was found buried to his waist in soybeans, he wasn't removed until 12:13 a.m. Saturday.
Firefighters from Jefferson Township, Columbia City and Fort Wayne responded with ladder trucks and local farmers provided grain vacuums to lower the level of grain, allowing rescuers to free the man's legs.
Area students who are interested in serving as single-day pages in the Indiana House of Representatives are encouraged to sign up for the 2012 session.
By serving as a House page, students are given the opportunity to view and participate in the day-to-day activities of the General Assembly.
COLUMBIA CITY â€“ A 4-H Open House is scheduled for all families and young 4-H Members at the 4-H Center (West Room) Thursday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m.
The 4-H Open House will last approximately one hour. Information about enrollment, projects and other activities will be available.
This will be a great opportunity for families who are not familiar with the 4-H program or are just starting 4-H to ask questions and gather information, note 4-H organizers.
Enrollment forms will be available. Open enrollment for Mini and Regular 4-H will be starting in February through April 2.
