Columbia City seniors Brandon Gay and Matt Rethlake were named to the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Academic All-State Honorable Mention team.
Also garnishing honors from the IBCA were juniors Drew Benedict and Derek Hinen, receiving All-State Underclassmen Honorable Mention honors.

CHURUBUSCO â€” Brandi Herron and Rachel Fehring are not just close academically, theyâ€™re best friends.
Herron is Churubusco Junior-Senior High Schoolâ€™s Class of 2012 valedictorian. With a GPA of 11.745, Herron is the daughter of Margie and Randy Herron of Churubusco.
Thatâ€™s a difference of .005 percent from this yearâ€™s salutatorian, Fehring, who has a GPA of 11.740. She is a daughter of John and Rhonda Fehring also of Churubusco.
The young women are best friends and theyâ€™ve been one and two nearly all of their academic years.
Cleveland and Washington township firemen battled a barn fire Tuesday evening at 4375 Pook Rd. near South Whitley. The barn, which was full of hay, was wiped out in less than two hours. No animals were injured in the blaze.

COLUMBIA CITY â€” Having called a special meeting slated for tonight, the Whitley County Plan Commission will once again be discussing the hot-topic issue of amending a zoning ordinance to account for wind turbines.
In February, the commission took an impromptu vote â€” one which did not count or would have even decided anything â€” to gauge where the commission stood on the drafted ordinance in front of them. Last month, a mandatory public hearing was held to allow for opinions from all sides to be shared.

Harry James â€śJimmyâ€ť Dailey, age 68, of Columbia City, died at 9:28 a.m. Sunday, April 1, 2012, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
Born July 4, 1943, in Fort Wayne, he was the son of Harry E. and Mildred L. (Pelkey) Gill-Dailey.
He graduated from Central High School, Fort Wayne with the class of 1962.
After graduation, he served in the Army National Guard of Indiana as a reserve.
He moved from Fort Wayne to Whitley County in 1974.
A Fort Wayne police officer was suspended for five days, city officials said, after being caught on camera snoozing when he was supposed to be patrolling city streets.
According to area news reports, the punishment was set due it being his second suspension in as many months.
The report from city officials said Officer Gregory K. Addison Jr. slept for approximately 30 minutes during his early morning shift.
Police learned of the violation by viewing video from Addison's in-car camera and reported the offense to the city's Board of Public Safety on Monday.

COLUMBIA CITY â€” Eighteen-year-old Dylan Cozad and Jesse Warner were selected as this yearâ€™s valedictorian and salutatorian at Whitko High School, bringing them more opportunities for their futures.
Cozad, the valedictorian and recent winner of the Whitley County Community Foundation 2012 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship, said, â€śMy mom always said if I received good grades, I was going to have optionsâ€” options of where I want to go to school or where I want to get a job. So Iâ€™ve just always worked to give myself choices for the future.â€ť
