TAKING TWO: Whitko baseball at Prairie Heights

BRUSHY PRAIRIE — Whitko’s baseball team traveled to Prairie Heights on Saturday for a non-conference doubleheader. Whitko took both halves, winning game one 12-5 and taking the second contest 14-7.

“These are two great wins,” said Wildcat Head Coach Erik Hisner. “We challenged our players after a tough loss at Tippecanoe Valley and they responded with lots of intensity and focus. I can’t say enough about my guys today. They showed a lot of resiliency.”

NHC TITLE: Columbia City golf wins

KENDALLVILLE — The last name on the Northeast Hoosier Conference golf championship trophy will belong to Columbia City’s Eagles.

Columbia City claimed a three-shot victory over Homestead to win the conference tournament at Cobblestone Golf course on Saturday which, combined with their tie for first place in the regular season standings, gave the Eagles the overall NHC title.

Whitko tennis falls in sectional finals

WARSAW — Whitko’s Lady Wildcats took to the tennis courts at Warsaw High School for the finals of the IHSAA sectional. Whitko’s season came to an end as they fell 5-0 to the host Lady Tigers.

“We won some games,” said Whitko Head Coach Chris McGehee. “Our goal was to make the finals. That’s the same goal we had for the boys’ team. We had three girls that never played tennis before this year. The progress that we made this year in just making it to the finals was great. I am proud of the way they competed.”

WARSAW — A sweep of the singles matches gave Whitko’s Lady Wildcats a 3-2 win over Tippecanoe Valley in the semi-finals of the Warsaw tennis sectional Thursday evening.

After dropping both doubles matches, the Lady Wildcats came back to take all three singles matches in straight sets to advance to today’s sectional finals against host Warsaw, a 5-0 winner over Wawasee in the other semi-final.

NHC: Col. City golf ties for first

COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s Eagle golf team closed out the regular season portion of its Northeast Hoosier Conference schedule with a 145-177 win over New Haven at Eagle Glen Golf Course.

The Eagle duo of Tyler Green and Spencer Klimek continued an outstanding season, with Green claiming medalist honors with a four-under-par 32, and Klimek also coming in under-par, with a one-under 35.

SECTIONAL WIN: Whitko boys track

WHITLEY COUNTY — Whitko’s boys track team took home the sectional title and several Whitley County athletes are headed to the regional competition next week.

Churubusco’s boys placed fifth in the North Side Sectional, and Columbia City came in 11th in the Goshen Sectional Thursday.

5 to 0: ’Busco blanked by Chargers, 5-0

FORT WAYNE — Churubusco’s girls tennis team faced Carroll in the opening round of sectional play at the Chargers’ home courts. The Lady Eagles fell 5-0.

Audrey Giercher was the closest to scoring a win for ’Busco, falling to Carroll’s Jenna Jackson 6-1, 6-3.

EAGLE LOSS: ’Busco softball falls to Hornets

ANGOLA — Angola’s Lady Hornets scored four runs in each of the first two innings to down Churubusco’s Lady Eagle softball team 8-2 in a Northeast Corner Conference game Tuesday evening at Angola.

Angola put up four runs in the first inning and another four runs in the second to take an 8-0 lead.

SEASON COMING TO A CLOSE: Col. City tennis No. 1 doubles team advances to regional

WARSAW — Columbia City’s Lady Eagle tennis team opened IHSAA sectional play Wednesday evening, taking on the host Warsaw Lady Tigers.

Columbia City fell by a 4-1 score eliminating IT from the team competition, however, the Columbia City doubles team of Macie Hinen and Aubrey Wright will advance to the Culver Academies regional by virtue of their win at No. 1 doubles.

TO REGIONAL: 15 girls tracksters advance

WHITLEY COUNTY — The road to the IHSAA track and field championships began Tuesday evening for all three Whitley County high school girls’ track teams.

Columbia City’s Lady Eagles competed at Warsaw high school, placing eighth as a team. The host Warsaw Lady Tigers ran away with the team title.
