Col. City wins Wawasee Invite

November 26, 2012

SYRACUSE — Hall of Fame catcher Yogi Berra is often quoted as saying “It ain’t over ‘til it’s over.”

But at Saturday’s Super Duals wrestling tournament at Wawasee High School, even after it was over, it wasn’t over.

Columbia City’s match with host Wawasee and the tournament championship had to be decided on the eighth-criteria tiebreaker.

When the dust cleared, the Eagles picked up the win over the Warriors and completed a perfect 5-0 day to take the tournament championship.

November 19, 2012

Despite Macie Hinen’s comeback — scoring twice in the final minute to take a three-point lead — Marion scored twice in the final four seconds to win, 43-40.

Emily Whiteleather led Columbia City in scoring and rebounds with a double-double, 10 points and 15 rebounds.

The end of the road: ’Busco falls to Bishop Luers in sectional title game, 21-0

November 2, 2012

CHURUBUSCO — While Churubusco’s football season seemingly ended the same as it did last year — a lopsided loss at Bishop Luers.

But Friday’s 21-0 score is hardly comparable to last season’s 34-7 loss to the Knights.

The Eagles held the score to a one-possession game for the first 39 minutes of play, had several threatening offensive drives and a defense that forced Luers to multiple 4th-and-longs. The Knights were scoreless for two quarters, only reaching the end zone in the final seven minutes.

’Busco takes on Bishop Luers ... again

November 1, 2012

FORT WAYNE — Churubusco’s football team is seeking revenge after a frustrating 34-7 loss last season in the sectional title game.

The Knights come into this year’s sectional final game with an uncharacteristic 7-4 record, after only posting two losses from 2010-11.

Luers has had a difficult season, with the hype around the firing of coach Matt Lindsay mid-season due to a scandal involving inappropriate video clips on his computer.

Since Lindsay left the field Sept. 13, the Knights have lost two games, including a forfeit to Wayne High School.
