Whitko golf falls to T. Valley

Whitko’s boys golf team fell in a Three Rivers Conference dual against Tippecanoe Valley Tuesday night.

The Wildcats dropped the match to their conference rivals, 168-183.
Leading Whitko was Danny Zawlocki with 41 strokes.

Two Wildcat linksters posted 47s, Matt Hathaway and Will Peters.

Whitko’s bottom two golfers, Cole Bechtold and Tim Gensch, each scored 48s.
Tippecanoe Valley posted scores of 38, 41, 44, 45 and 46.

Whitko baseball falls to Northfield

Whitko’s baseball team suffered a difficult loss to Three Rivers Conference foe Northfield Tuesday night, 11-2.

The Norsemen are 3-1 in the TRC and Whitko drops to 2-2.
Northfield took the lead early on, scoring four unanswered runs in the second inning.

Whitko scored one of its two runs in the top of the third, but the run was negated by another Northfield run in the bottom of the third frame.
After a scoreless fourth inning, Northfield tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 6-1.

SCHUMAKER SLATED IN SENIOR PGA: Local man earns 16th Player of the Year title

The accolades continue for Whitley County pro golfer Bill Schumaker.

Schumaker, PGA pro and owner at Crooked Lake Golf Course, earned his 16th Indiana Player of the Year title recently, and qualified to play in the 2014 Senior PGA Championship at Harbor Shores Golf Course in Benton Harbor, Mich. Schumaker is the only pro from Indiana who earned a slot in the national competition, which runs from May 22 to 25 and includes the likes of Tom Watson and Fred Couples.

Col. City battles in strong NHC meet

ck teams struggled against a strong field in the Northeast Hoosier Conference meet this week.

With the odds against them, Columbia City’s boys placed seventh and the girls took eighth out of eight schools in the NHC.

The meet began Friday, but was postponed to Monday after thunderstorms hit New Haven.

Monday was also the night scheduled for the Columbia City High School Honors Convocation, which several track athletes were slated to receive awards.

Along with that distraction, some athletes were injured or unable to participate.
