Whitko golf takes sixth in invite

Whitko hosted 12 teams in its own golf invitational Saturday at Sycamore Golf Club in North Manchester.

John Glen High School took the invite title with 316 strokes. Whitko placed sixth with 335 strokes.

Other teams that competed include Wawasee (328), Northfield (330), LaVille (334), Tippecanoe Valley (334), Fairfield (342), Manchester (379), Central Noble (394), New Prairie (398), West Noble (404) and Wabash (409).

Whitko softball competes in Wawasee tournament

Whitko’s softball team traveled to Syracuse for the Wawasee Invitational Saturday. In the opening game, the Lady Wildcats faced South Bend Clay.

Despite a close start to the game, South Bend Clay pulled away with a 9-3 win.

Whitko was led by Hanna Yohe offensively with two hits. Aly Nicodemus pitched the whole game, giving up five earned runs, striking out four and walking none.

‘Busco boys golf picks up victory

The high school boys squad of Churubusco golf matched up Friday against Manchester on the links of Eel River Golf Course.

The Eagles varsity won by 36 strokes with a score of 162-198.
Brandon Norris of ‘Busco shot the low score of 39, followed by Brad Martin with a 40 and Trey Mayer with a 41.

Beau Barkley scored a 42, Mike Erwin finished with 50 strokes and Cody Teusch had a 52.

Busco’s JV low shooter was Gabe Erwin with a 44 followed by Seth Brown with a 47.

Eagle’s JV shot a 196, unopposed by Manchester.

Errors in the field from Whitko’s softball team helped Central Noble get a win Wednesday.

The Lady Cougars beat the visiting Lady Wildcats 4-3. The contest was scoreless early, as neither team managed even a hit in the first three innings of play.

Central Noble finally scored first, taking advantage of Whitko errors to get two runs in the fourth and one in the bottom of the fifth.

The Lady Wildcats struck in the top of the sixth. With the bases loaded, Sydney Lancaster hit a one-run single to make the game 3-1.

CCHS golf grabs win

April 25, 2014

Columbia City’s boys golf picked up its second win of the week Thursday night, topping Canterbury 164-170.

After a close match at Canterbury last year, falling by two strokes, the Eagles sought revenge at Eagle Glen.

WIN FOR WHITKO: tracksters defeat Southwood

Whitko’s track and field teams downed conference-rival Southwood Thursday.

The Whitko boys won by a final score of 79-53 and the Lady Wildcats were victorious 70-62.

The girls meet was highlighted by Elaine Warner being an individual event double-winner and part of the winning 400-meter relay team.

ONE POINT WIN: Col. City girls track earns first win

Columbia City’s girls track team grabbed its first win of the season Thursday night against Huntington North.

While Head Coach Bob Fahl had confidence in his team, the win came as a bit of a surprise, as Huntington North has typically been tough competition for the Lady Eagles.

“I never thought our first win of the year would be against Huntington,” Fahl said.

'BUSCO EAGLES GET SWEEP: stay unbeaten

Churubusco’s boys and girls track teams remain undefeated at 6-0 this season following dominant wins over Prairie Heights Thursday.

The boys team won 115-17 and the girls took the win 105-13.

In the girls meet, Churubusco Track and Field Head Coach Zach Dock said Katie Monk broke her own school record in the discus with a heave of 140-10. Monk also won the shot put.

CC GOLF DOWNS BELLMONT: 15-stroke improvement

Columbia City’s boys golf team came away with a win in its second match of the week Wednesday night. Scores showed a 15-stroke improvement from the Eagles’ 173 loss against Homestead.

Columbia City took out Bellmont, 158-171.

Three Eagle golfers tied as medalists in the match — Tyler Green, Spencer Klimek and Trent Murphy all scored a 39.

TENNIS TAG TEAM: Lady Eagle tennis off to strong start

The Lady Eagles traveled to Plymouth for an invitational Saturday, with the No. 1 doubles team of Macie Hinen and Sydney Ford leading the charge.

Hinen and Ford won all four of their matches to earn the No. 1 doubles championship.

The Lady Eagles also topped county-rival Churubusco 4-1 Monday.
