Wildcats take second at Concord Relays

   ELKHART — The Whitko boys’ track and field team traveled to the Concord Relays Friday and finished second in the class B division behind Fairfield.
   The Wildcats tallied 81 points led by a record breaking night for the 3200-meter relay team.
   Together, Jude Stieglitz, Trapper Mize, Brian Menzie and Brody Wilson won the event and also picked up a new school record of 8:19.43.

Gangwer returns, Snider bats beat City

Columbia City lefty Emily Gangwer makes contact during the Lady Eagles home game Friday night. City trailed by as much as seven runs and fell to Snider 10-3. Gangwer made one of her first appearances of the season Friday since coming off a injury in the preseason.

Columbia City track and field at Carroll Relays

   FORT WAYNE — Friday night saw the Columbia City track squads travel to Carroll High School for the 41st annual Carroll Relays, a unique event that combines the scores for both the boys and girls teams to  arrive at a team champion.  
   The Columbia City girls placed third with the boys taking fifth, with the combined score placing the Eagles fifth behind the host Chargers who claimed the team title.

Eagles quietly dispose of Leo

   COLUMBIA CITY — The 2-7 record put up by Columbia City boys’ golf might not seem like much at a glance but something quietly is building on the links.
   Thursday the Leo Lions were one of the first to bear witness at Eagle Glen Golf Course as the Eagles put up one of their strongest showings of the season.
   After posting a season-best total against Carroll Tuesday, Columbia City bettered that mark in a 173-177 win over Leo.

Col. City nips New Haven

   COLUMBIA CITY — If you like baseball games with a lot of offense, the Columbia City baseball diamond was the place to be Thursday.
   The Eagles and the New Haven Bulldogs put up 23 runs and collected 25 hits between the two Northeast Hoosier Conference teams.
   Columbia City pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a 12-11 win.

Lady Eagles stay perfect in NHC amidst brunt of season

   COLUMBIA CITY — The brunt of the Indiana high school girls’ tennis schedule has had Columbia City on the court day in and day out.
   But not even seven matches in seven days has been able to beat the Lady Eagles.
   After topping its 2010 win total of eight the day before, Columbia City returned to DeVol Field courts   Thursday in hopes of keeping its Northeast Hoosier Conference record unbeaten against New Haven.

Farlow’s single in ninth lifts ’Busco over Hamilton 5-4

   HAMILTON — The Churubusco baseball team saw both a two-run deficit and two-run lead on the road Thursday at Hamilton.
   After nine innings, it came down to one run.
   Senior Ryan Farlow’s single in the top of the ninth inning helped Churubusco finish on top 5-4 over the Marines.

Whitko gets late inning heroics

   SOUTH WHITLEY — The Wildcats have had their fair share of dramatic wins at home this season, including a walk-off home run by Josh Pratt against Churubusco last month.
   Wednesday’s game at home against Southwood followed suit with extra innings and a rally to win the game 4-3.

Lady Eagles top win total from 2010

   LEO — For two seasons the Columbia City girls’ tennis team has finished with an 8-9 record and not been able to get over the elusive .500 mark.
   Wednesday, the Lady Eagles made sure 2011 will ended differently.
   Winning its ninth match of the season, Columbia City beat Leo 4-1 on the road insuring a winning record at the end of the season.

Southwood fires off win at Whitko
