SWEET HOMECOMING: Churubusco beats Central Noble

CHURUBUSCO ­­— Central Noble made the trip south to Churubusco to play the Eagles in one of the most highly anticipated games of the season.

The energy and excitement of the game from the stands and the field was palpable due to the heated rivalry between the Eagles and the Cougars, largely in part to the week-long build up of ’Busco’s homecoming, and the Eagles won 33-14.

KENDALLVILLE — It was all Columbia City in the second half at East Noble for Friday night’s football game.

Unfortunately for the Eagles, it was all East Noble in the first half, and Columbia City fell 49-35 to remain win-less in the Northeast Hoosier Conference.

FINISHING IN PRIME FASHION: Eagles wrap up season with win over Garrett

COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s senior boys soccer players topped off the regular season in prime fashion, hosting and beating Garrett 8-3.
Senior Drake DeWitt, who recorded seven goals, opened Columbia City’s offensive charge, scoring with 27:11 to go in the first half. DeWitt scored again at the 24:08 mark, and yet again with 1:24 left in the half to make the score 3-0 at halftime.

NO BLOOD: Whitko boys tie with Prairie Heights, 2-2

LAGRANGE — Whitko’s boys soccer team ended the regular season with a tie against Prairie Heights Tuesday evening. Both teams scored a goal apiece in the first and second halves, ending the game at 2-2.

SOUTH WHITLEY — Someone once wrote that a game that ends in a tie is like kissing your sister. For the Columbia City and Whitko girls’ soccer teams, Wednesday night’s county-rivalry game that ended in a 1-1 tie was like kissing a sister you don’t like and has bad breath. The game played on the Wildcats’ turf was scoreless through the first half, although the Lady Eagles were able to put a great deal of pressure on the Wildcat goal. Despite the pressure, the Wildcats were able to keep the Lady Eagles out of the goal.

WILDCAT TENNIS DOWNS COUNTY RIVAL: Takes 4-1 victory over Churubusco

CHURUBUSCO — Whitko’s boys tennis team took the 25-mile trip north on Ind. 205 to take on county-rival Churubusco Tuesday night. The Wildcats beat the Eagles on their home court, 4-1, in a string of close matches.

EAGLES SOCCER SUFFER: Fall 5-0 to Carroll

HUNTERTOWN — Columbia City’s boys soccer team fell 5-0 to Northeast Hoosier Conference foe Carroll Monday night. Carroll began its offensive strike in the first five minutes, en route to a 4-0 halftime lead after goals at the 27:41, 17:14 and 10:51 marks.

WIN OVER WAWASEE: Lady ’Cats strong on pink night

SOUTH WHITLEY — For the second night in a row the Whitko Lady Wildcat volleyball team took the floor, and for the second night in a row produced a solid team effort. Tuesday’s effort produced a different result than the previous night, as the Lady Wildcats took a four-game 25-18, 26-24, 25-27, 25-22 win over the visiting Wawasee Lady Warriors.

SENIOR NIGHT: Eagles drop senior honor match

COLUMBIA CITY — Norwell’s boys soccer team spoiled Columbia City’s senior honor recognition match Saturday morning. The Northeast Hoosier Conference foe came away with a 4-1 victory, while the Eagles honored its seven seniors — Jordan Gregory, Logan Bockelman, Drake DeWitt, Sean Ewing, Jordan Lahr, Nick Weber and Eric Romanowski.

LOSS TO LAVILLEL: Lady Wildcats fall 9-2

SOUTH WHITLEY — There are 80 minutes in a girl's high school soccer game. Each half consists of 40 minutes. For over half of the game, the Whitko Lady Wildcats played LaVille evenly. It was the beginning and ending of the game that cursed Whitko Saturday morning. LaVille scored several early and several late goals to send the Lady 'Cats to a 9-2 loss.
