Tight contest favors Lady Eagles

   COLUMBIA CITY — The measure of a good team is not only their won-loss record, but also how they respond under the pressure of close contests.
   The Columbia City Lady Eagle volleyball team got its share of pressure Thursday night when it played host to the Huntington North Lady Vikings.

Columbia City’s double vision rolls through NHC

   WATERLOO — In the pursuit of perfection it takes two in the case of Columbia City boys’ tennis.
   Going into Thursday’s match at DeKalb, two positions stood at 11-0 for the Eagles. It took a tandem of two players, in their first season playing together, to get a 10th win on the season for Columbia City  beating the Barons 5-0.

Late Whitko rally cut short by Squires

   SOUTH WHITLEY -- Thursday night’s away game was expected to be an easy win for the Manchester Squires.
   After a blow out game earlier this season, the Squires traveled into South Whitley and anticipated the same outcome.
   But Whitko had no part of that. The Lady Wildcats were not going down without a fight but lost in four   games 3-1.
   After quick losses in the first two games, it appeared the Squires were about to mirror their previous encounter.

   COLUMBIA CITY — Winning can be contagious but it can also be a curse. With success, breeds complacency for some teams with year after year being just as good as the next.
   But for Columbia City boys’ tennis it’s a constant battle the Eagles know they’re fighting to stay atop of the Northeast Hoosier Conference.

Brisk wind helps DeKalb blow down Columbia City 2-0

   COLUMBIA CITY — The Columbia City Eagles boys’ soccer team had trouble generating an offense against a quick DeKalb Baron squad, fighting a tight passing attack the first half and the wind during the second.
   This combination kept the ball in the Columbia City half of the field for most of the game. The Barons got two scores in the second half to hand the Eagles a 2-0 Northeast Hoosier Conference loss Tuesday night   at the Max Gandy Athletic Field.

CC bumps Manchester 3-0

   Columbia City senior Madi Sjahfiedin bumps a ball over the net as teammate Hailey Woll (7) backs her up. The Lady Eagles hosted Manchester Tuesday night sweeping the Lady Squires in three games 25-23, 25-18, 25-22. Kalisha Goree and Maddie Hinen led in boths kills and digs. Col. City, Whitko dealt losses in conference play

   BLUFFTON — It’s been a tough stretch for Columbia City girls’ golf.
   After opening with an Northeast Hoosier Conference win, the Lady Eagles have struggled to find another win in the conference.
   On Tuesday, City hoped to put that to rest at Timber Ridge with a dual match against Norwell.
   Unfortunately, dual medalist for the Lady Knights ended those hopes in a Norwell victory 182-213.

’Busco stumble against rival CN

   CHURUBUSCO — For the Churubusco volleyball team, it isn’t a matter of not playing hard, scoring points or making great plays. It’s just a matter of finishing the game.
   The Lady Eagles hosted Central Noble Tuesday night and were handed a 3-0 loss.
   Though they lost in three games, ’Busco didn’t go down without a fight. The second and third games began with the Lady Eagles taking quick 6-2 and 7-3 leads that were eventually relinquished.

Lady Eagles shutout DeKalb on NHC road

   Columbia City girls' soccer dealt Northeast Hoosier Conference foe DeKalb a 2-0 shutout on the road Tuesday night. Goals came from Sarah Opliger on an assist from Katie Salliant in the first half. Michaela McIntosh followed with a second half goal with the help of Jessica Bickle on the assist. Pictured is junior Lacey Jahn lining up a cross in the first half.
