FANTASTIC FAN: An unexpected greeting

Andy Huston (right), a sixth-grader at Indian Springs Middle School, attended a White Sox game in September at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago. Huston was hoping to see his favorite player, Paul Konerko, take the field one last time before retiring at the end of the season. While Konerko did not make an appearance in the game, all was not lost. Seated directly behind Andy was none other than former White Sox slugger Ron Kittle (left).

WIN OVER NEW HAVEN: Eagles en route to sectional championship

Columbia City’s football team is en route to its second-ever sectional title with only one opponent in its way — Norwell. The Eagles beat Norwell in the regular season by one point in overtime on Oct. 17. Pictured above is the team after its win over New Haven Friday.

IHSAA SECTIONAL ACTION: Eagles seeking revenge against New Haven

NEW HAVEN — The first time the Columbia City Eagle football team crossed paths with the New Haven Bulldogs this season was on the Eagles’ home field at Homecoming. The Eagles and the Bulldogs will square off in the second round of IHSAA Sectional action Friday night on the Bulldogs home field.

NORTH VS. SOUTH: Whitko All-Stars selected for soccer challenge

Three Whitko High School girls soccer players were selected to compete in the 4th Annual Indiana Elite North vs. South All-Star Soccer Challenge. The game is slated for Nov. 8 at Danville Community High School’s Warrior Stadium. Pictured are Whitko’s three players, from left: Leighandra Goodman, Mikayla Findley and Heather Bryan. Goodman will play in the sophomore division at 3 p.m., Findley will play in the junior division at 4:45 p.m. and Bryan will play in the senior division at 6:30 p.m.
