SECOND IN NHC: Col. City tennis finishes

COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s tennis team wrapped up the Northeast Hoosier Conference portion of its schedule Thursday evening at the DeVol Field courts. The Lady Eagles fell to Carroll by a 4-1 score on Senior night.

At No.1 singles Eagle Rachel Flauding fell 6-0, 6-1 to Carroll’s Sydney Jackson.

TRC MEET: Whitko girls win

WABASH — Whitko’s girls track team edged Northfield to take the Three Rivers Conference track and field title at Southwood Thursday evening.

Whitko put up 122.5 points to finish ahead of Northfield’s 114.5 points. Rochester was third at 84 points, with Southwood taking fourth with 81.5.

8 TO 7 LOSS: Lady Wildcats drop close TRC contest

ROCHESTER — Two runs in their last at-bat gave host Rochester Lady Zebras a Three Rivers Conference win over the visiting Whitko Lady Wildcats Wednesday night, 8-7.

The Wildcats pushed across two runs in the top of the second inning to take the lead early. Rochester tied the contest with two runs of its own in the bottom of the third.

6 TO 5: Whitko baseball wins in nine

SOUTH WHITLEY — It took nine innings, but the Whitko Wildcat baseball team claimed a 6-5 home Three Rivers Conference win over the Rochester Zebras Wednesday.

In a very evenly played game, both teams put up three runs in the first inning, with Rochester getting theirs in the top half of the first and Whitko matching them in the bottom half.

HUNTERTOWN — Three hits and three walks by the host Carroll Lady Chargers in the fourth inning helped send the visiting Columbia City softball team to a 7-4 Northeast Hoosier Conference loss Wednesday evening.

The Lady Eagles drew first blood, when lead-off batter Ciarra Ivy singled past third base, advanced on a sacrifice by Alexis Waldeck, and scored on a double by catcher Ashley Williamson, to give the Lady Eagles a 1-0 lead.

EAGLE VICTORY: CCHS golf downs East Noble

KENDALLVILLE ­— Columbia City High School’s golf team ran its overall record to 7-2 with a 160-188 win over host East Noble in Tuesday evening’s Northeast Hoosier Conference match at Noble Hawk Golf Club.

Columbia City put up solidly consistent numbers with its top four scores all within a two-stroke span.

LADY EAGLES 5-0 IN CONFERENCE: Col. City netters win versus Knights

KENDALLVILLE — Columbia City’s Lady Eagle tennis team kept its Northeast Hoosier Conference record spotless taking a hard-fought 3-2 win over the host East Noble Lady Knights.

At No. 1 singles, East Noble’s Haley Schroeder downed Columbia City’s Rachel Flauding, 6-3, 6-3.

KENDALLVILLE — In weather conditions more closely resembling early March than early May, Columbia City’s baseball team saw a 3-1 lead evaporate into a 4-3 loss to Northeast Hoosier Conference foe East Noble on the Knights home field Tuesday evening.

The Eagles broke on top with back-to-back singles by Justin Dailey and Carson Reed. Dailey scored when Jacob Wolfe reached first safely on an East Noble error to give Columbia City a 1-0 lead.

11 TO 1: ’Busco softball suffers loss to Concordia

CHURUBUSCO — Churubusco’s softball team struggled at home Saturday, losing to Concordia Lutheran, 11-1.

Elaine Horn opened the game for the Lady Eagles with a solo home run to give ’Busco an early 1-0 lead. Unfortunately for the home team, that would be its only score.

TAKING THIRD: Col. City JV golf at invite

NEW HAVEN — Columbia City’s JV golf team shot 318 at the New Haven Invitational, good enough to take third place in the seven-team tournament.

Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger took first, shooting a 305. Carroll High School was second with a 313. The Eagles followed with a 318. Leo placed fourth at 332, with Huntington taking fifth at 340. Concordia was sixth at 363, with Bishop Luers rounding out the field at 377.
