14 TO 4: Miscues costly in Eagle loss

COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s baseball team battled gale-force winds Tuesday. They dodged sn-ow flurries at game-time Wednesday.

In the end, seven Eagle errors, and 13 walks helped the visiting Concordia Cadets to hang a 14-4 defeat on the host Eagles.

WILDCATS: Whitko baseball drops 11-0 contest

SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko’s baseball team dropped an 11-0 contest to Peru Tuesday night.

The Wildcats used four pitchers in the loss, and managed one hit on the night.
Closing pitcher Hunter Sroufe had the lone hit.

He pitched fourth and final inning for the Wildcat defense, tallying two strikeouts.

BASEBALL: Eagles blow past Leo, 14-9

COLUMBIA CITY — Played in 30 mile-per-hour winds that made playing fly balls an adventure, Columbia City’s Eagle baseball team pulled out a 14-9 win over the visiting Leo.

In cold, windy conditions, the Eagles took advantage of a strong wind blowing out to right field and enough defense to outlast the Lions in a contest that was never short on offense.

TRACK: Lady Eagles edge DeKalb, Norwell

OSSIAN — Columbia City’s girls’ track team made the long trip to Norwell for a triangular meet with the Knights and the DeKalb Lady Barons.

The Lady Eagles came out on top, scoring 51 points. DeKalb was second with 50, and the host Lady Knights were third with 44 points in very windy, cold conditions.

'BUSCO GOLF: Wins three-way

CHURUBUSCO ­— Seasonably cool temperatures and gusting winds did not stop Churubusco’s boys golf team from competing against Lakeland and West Noble high schools Tuesday at Eel River Golf Course.

The Eagles took first with a combined score of 168, followed by Lakeland with 181 and then West Noble, 191.

COL. CITY GOLF: Suffers first loss

COLUMBIA CITY — So far in the 2015 golf season, Columbia City’s Eagle golf team has been able to rely on grouping several scores in the 38- to 40-stroke range.

On a windy, cold Tuesday evening the Eagles needed a second low in their Northeast Hoosier Conference showdown match against the Homestead Spartans. The Eagles failed to get that second low score and fell to the Spartans by a narrow margin, 171-174, in a match played at Eagle Glen.

Columbia City’s girls softball team is on a roll, winning its last two games by the 10-run rule. The Lady Eagles topped Warsaw Saturday. Pictured, Columbia City’s Samantha Winebrenner beats out an infield hit in the third inning of the Eagles’ 11-1 win over Warsaw.

The NBA Playoffs started this past Saturday. We are going to look at the results and give predictions on how the rest of the series goes. We will start in the Eastern Conference first.

Milwaukee Bucks 91
The Bucks came out in the first half and played tough. The much stronger Bulls restored order in the second half behind the strong play of Jimmy Butler and Derrick Rose. This was the first playoff game Rose has played in since 2011 when he tore his ACL. He scored 23 points on an efficient 9-16 shooting from the field.

MARATHON GAME: ’Busco baseball wins

CHURUBUSCO — Churubusco’s boys’ baseball team got quite the workout Saturday, going ten innings to beat Northeast Corner Conference foe Eastside 3-2 Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles pushed across a run in the bottom of the third to take a 1-0 lead. Eastside countered in the top of the fourth to knot the score at 1-1 after four innings.
