KENDALLVILLE â€” East Nobleâ€™s girls golf team put an end to Columbia Cityâ€™s six-match win streak. The Lady Knights hosted the Lady Eagles at Noble Hawk Golf Course Tuesday night for a Northeast Hoosier Conference match.
East Noble posted a strong score to take the 168-203 victory.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” The only thing certain when Columbia City and Churubusco square off in any sort of sporting endeavor is that the Eagles will win. Such was the case Tuesday night when the Columbia City Lady Eagle volleyball team played host to Whitley County rival Churubusco.
WALTON â€” Churubuscoâ€™s football team faced off against the Lewis Cass Kings Friday night for the first time since 2010. Inclement weather plagued the game throughout the night, with a two-hour lightning delay stopping the game in the middle of the third quarter.
Despite the break, the Eagles ultimately kneeled to the Kings, losing 16-7.
WATERLOO â€” Columbia Cityâ€™s boys and girls cross country teams entered Saturdayâ€™s 2014 Baron Classic Cross Country Invitational with specific goals in mind. For the boys, it was to run in a pack and maintain contact with each other. For the girls, it was to improve on last yearâ€™s finish.
WALTON â€” In its first meeting with Lewis Cass, Churubuscoâ€™s football team fell to the Kings, 16-7 after a long weather delay.
Churubusco jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, and the Eaglesâ€™ defense continued to control the game in the opening minutes of the second quarter, when Churubusco held off Lewis Cass, on fourth down, one yard away from the goal, to force a turnover on downs.
SOUTH WHITLEY Ââ€” Whitkoâ€™s Lady Wildcat volleyball teams faced off against the Manchester Lady Squires Thursday evening in Manchester. Lady â€˜Cats varsity team won 3-1 and the JV team fell 2-0. Led by Whitko Head Coach Brandy Smith, the match leaders were Maddie Gawthrop with 17 kills, Elaine Warner with 37 assists and Tressa Keim with 34 digs a three aces.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Columbia Cityâ€™s girls golf team is continuing to stay near the top of the Northeast Hooser Conference, with only one loss in five matches. Thursday nightâ€™s last home match against Bellmont was no different, as the Lady Eagles downed their conference foes 192-260.
CHURUBUSCO â€” Churubuscoâ€™s boys tennis team fell in a 5-0 match to Manchester. The Eagles suffered difficult losses, including several sweeps.
Playing the most competitive match was Luke Lillmars in No. 1 singles. Lillmars fell 6-4, 6-2 to Manchesterâ€™s Connor Eichenauer.
ROCHESTER â€” Whitkoâ€™s girls soccer team traveled to Rochester Wednesday night and fell 4-1 to the Three Rivers Conference foe. Whitkoâ€™s lone goal was scored by Riley Insley in the first half, but the Lady Zebras tallied three goals in the first half and tacked on another in the second half for the win. Whitko goalkeeper Ilyssa Bennett posted 17 saves in the loss.
