EAGLE LOSS: ’Busco softball falls to Hornets

ANGOLA — Angola’s Lady Hornets scored four runs in each of the first two innings to down Churubusco’s Lady Eagle softball team 8-2 in a Northeast Corner Conference game Tuesday evening at Angola.

Angola put up four runs in the first inning and another four runs in the second to take an 8-0 lead.

SEASON COMING TO A CLOSE: Col. City tennis No. 1 doubles team advances to regional

WARSAW — Columbia City’s Lady Eagle tennis team opened IHSAA sectional play Wednesday evening, taking on the host Warsaw Lady Tigers.

Columbia City fell by a 4-1 score eliminating IT from the team competition, however, the Columbia City doubles team of Macie Hinen and Aubrey Wright will advance to the Culver Academies regional by virtue of their win at No. 1 doubles.

TO REGIONAL: 15 girls tracksters advance

WHITLEY COUNTY — The road to the IHSAA track and field championships began Tuesday evening for all three Whitley County high school girls’ track teams.

Columbia City’s Lady Eagles competed at Warsaw high school, placing eighth as a team. The host Warsaw Lady Tigers ran away with the team title.

CONFERENCE WINNERS: Indian Springs 7th-grade girls

PLYMOUTH — Indian Springs Middle School’s seventh-grade boys’ and girls’ track teams traveled to Plymouth for the Northeastern Lakes Middle School Conference track meet Saturday.

Indian Springs was led by the girls’ seventh grade team, who tied for first place in the team scoring. Indian Springs placed fourth in the seventh-grade boys’ competition.

18 TO 1: Lady Eagles blow out Wayne

COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s Lady Eagle softball team celebrated Senior Night with an 18-1 blowout of the Wayne Lady Generals Tuesday evening.

Columbia City pounded out 14 hits in routing the over-matched visitors. In a game that could have been much worse, the Lady Eagles put up 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning.

’BUSCO BASEBALL WINS: Eagles improve record to 14-6

WOODBURN ­— Churubusco’s baseball team ran its record to 14-6 with a 7-4 win over Woodlan in a game played on the Warriors’ field Monday evening.

Churubusco jumped out to a lead, pushing across three runs in the top of the first inning.

Whitko runs away to 11-1 win

SOUTH WHITLEY — There have been times this season when the Whitko Lady Wildcats softball team has let up on opponents after a big lead.

Monday was not one of those games. The Lady ’Cats kept their foot on the gas the entire game and the offense powered Whitko to an 11-1 win over Three Rivers Conference opponent Southwood.

SOUTH WHITLEY — A late surge from West Noble came up short and Whitko’s baseball team earned its 17th win of the season Monday, 5-3.

Tanner Gaff hit a solo shot over the fence in the first to start the game.

13 to 6: Lady Eagle softball slugs Norwell

COLUMBIA CITY — In a game shortened to five innings, Columbia City’s Lady Eagle softball team used the long ball to down visiting Northeast Hoosier Conference foe Norwell 13-6 Monday evening.

Every time the visiting Lady Knights scored, the Lady Eagles responded with offensive output of their own.

TAKING THIRD: Eagles golf at Zionsville

ZIONSVILLE — Columbia City’s golf team placed third in the prestigious Dave Sollman Invitational at Zionsville, downing ranked teams in the process.

The Eagles, ranked No. 15 in the latest coaches’ poll shot a 312, behind only No. 3-ranked Westfield’s 297, and No. 1-ranked Center Grove which shot a 302. The Eagles placed ahead of No. 2-Ranked Carmel’s 318 and No. 6-ranked Zionsville in the 17-team tournament.
