CONCORDIA GOLF INVITATIONAL: Col. City golf takes third

FORT WAYNE — No. 16-ranked Columbia City took third at Saturday’s Concordia Golf Invitational at the Foster Park golf course.

The Eagles shot 312, placing behind Leo and Bishop Dwenger, who both scored 301. When the tie couldn’t be broken on the fifth golfer’s score, the top five for Leo and Dwenger went out for a one-hole playoff to decide the winner.

TURTLE TOWN CLASSIC: ’Busco girls host invite

CHURUBUSCO — Churubusco’s girls track team hosted the Turtle Town Classic invitational Saturday, despite blowing rain and cool temperatures.

The host team placed fifth in the Black division, comprised of smaller schools.

Cormany placed third and Regan took fifth in the event. There were 23 schools at Churubusco High School for the event. Columbia City placed second in the Gold Division (big school). Whitko came in second and Churubusco placed fifth in the Black Division (small school).

Col. City survives cold start, tops ’Busco

COLUMBIA CITY — A slow start by Columbia City’s Lady Eagle softball team and patience at the plate by the visiting Churubusco Lady Eagles put Columbia City in an early hole against the visitors, but scores in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings let Columbia City rally to come away with a 6-3 win Friday night at Morsches Park.

The normally dependable Columbia City pitching struggled early giving up back-to-back walks to start the game. A single loaded the bases and another walk forced in the first run of the game for Churubusco.

12-9: ’Busco softball takes win over Chargers

LIGONIER — Churubusco’s Lady Eagle softball team banged out 13 hits and used a six-run second inning to take a 12-9 win at West Noble Thursday night.

With the score tied 1-1 after the first inning, Churubusco came to bat in the top of the second inning and pushed across six runs to go up 7-1.

4-1 VICTORY: Whitko girls tennis

AKRON — Whitko’s girls tennis team picked up a conference win at Tippecanoe Valley High School Thursday.
The Lady Wildcats got wins in all matches but one to take a 4-1 victory.

Delaney Keirn picked up a singles win in a long match against Valley’s Whitney Haneline. Keirn won the first set 6-1, but fell in the second 6-4. Keirn won the final tie-breaking set in extra points, 7-3.

COL. CITY DEFEAT: Huntington runs past Lady Eagles

HUNTINGTON — Using sweeps of the pole vault and the discus, and overall depth in the sprints, host Huntington North was able to pull away from Columbia City in a Thursday night girls’ track meet.

The Lady Eagles picked up wins in six events, including a sweep in the long jump, but it wasn’t enough to offset the depth of the Lady Vikings.

PARKVIEW FIELD: Wildcats drop game

SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko’s baseball team gave up six runs in the top of the seventh inning, letting a Three Rivers Conference game with the Southwood Knights slip away 10-7 on a cold Wednesday evening.

The host Wildcats got on the board first with a single run in the bottom of the second inning.
Southwood tied the game in the top of the third with a single run.

14 TO 4: Miscues costly in Eagle loss

COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s baseball team battled gale-force winds Tuesday. They dodged sn-ow flurries at game-time Wednesday.

In the end, seven Eagle errors, and 13 walks helped the visiting Concordia Cadets to hang a 14-4 defeat on the host Eagles.

WILDCATS: Whitko baseball drops 11-0 contest

SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko’s baseball team dropped an 11-0 contest to Peru Tuesday night.

The Wildcats used four pitchers in the loss, and managed one hit on the night.
Closing pitcher Hunter Sroufe had the lone hit.

He pitched fourth and final inning for the Wildcat defense, tallying two strikeouts.
