FORT WAYNE — Whitko’s boys tennis team traveled to Northrop Wednesday night to face the Bruins. Northrop prevailed, beating the Wildcats 5-0.

ONE AND ONE: Churubusco tennis tops Central Noble; falls to Lakeland

CHURUBUSCO — Churubusco’s boys tennis team has picked up a win and a loss this week.
Tuesday, the Eagles beat Central Noble in a close, 3-2, match.
Churubusco was led by its singles players, Luke Lillmars, Landon Lillmars and Derek Bowyer.

EARLY EARNS SECOND-PLACE: ISMS girls place fourth, boys come in fifth in season opener

OSSIAN — Indian Springs Middle School’s boys and girls cross country teams took strong placings in Wednesday night’s Norwell Middle School Invitational for the squads first meet of the season. Led by a second-place finish by Jasmine Early, the girls came in fourth out of 12 teams. The boys were led by Landon Wakeman, who placed seventh in a field of 70 runners.

HOME COURSE ADVANTAGE: East Noble kills Lady Eagle win streak

KENDALLVILLE — East Noble’s girls golf team put an end to Columbia City’s six-match win streak. The Lady Knights hosted the Lady Eagles at Noble Hawk Golf Course Tuesday night for a Northeast Hoosier Conference match.
East Noble posted a strong score to take the 168-203 victory.

COLUMBIA CITY — The only thing certain when Columbia City and Churubusco square off in any sort of sporting endeavor is that the Eagles will win. Such was the case Tuesday night when the Columbia City Lady Eagle volleyball team played host to Whitley County rival Churubusco.

WALTON — Churubusco’s football team faced off against the Lewis Cass Kings Friday night for the first time since 2010. Inclement weather plagued the game throughout the night, with a two-hour lightning delay stopping the game in the middle of the third quarter.
Despite the break, the Eagles ultimately kneeled to the Kings, losing 16-7.

RUNNING WILD: Boys, girls compete at invite

WATERLOO — Columbia City’s boys and girls cross country teams entered Saturday’s 2014 Baron Classic Cross Country Invitational with specific goals in mind. For the boys, it was to run in a pack and maintain contact with each other. For the girls, it was to improve on last year’s finish.

EAGLES FALL: ’Busco falls to Lewis Cass, 16-7

WALTON — In its first meeting with Lewis Cass, Churubusco’s football team fell to the Kings, 16-7 after a long weather delay.

Churubusco jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, and the Eagles’ defense continued to control the game in the opening minutes of the second quarter, when Churubusco held off Lewis Cass, on fourth down, one yard away from the goal, to force a turnover on downs.
