MARATHON MATCH: Lady Pats spoil Col. City Senior Night

COLUMBIA CITY — For the second time in five days, the Columbia City Lady Eagle volleyball team squared off against a strong Heritage Lady Patriot team. Saturday’s match went the full distance, with the Lady Eagles pulling out the win in the final game. This time, the match again went the maximum number of games, but the outcome swung toward the Lady Patriots as they left the Donald S. Weeks Gymnasium with a 17-25, 25-19, 20-25, 18-25 and 15-10 marathon win on Columbia City’s Senior Night.

LADY 'CATS WIN: Play ‘best game of season’

GARRETT — Every team wants to be playing its best at the end of the season as it prepares for the playoffs. The Lady ’Cats played what Head Coach Brandy Smith said was the team’s best game of the season, beating the Lady Railroaders 3-1 with scores of 25-23, 25-19, 23-25 and 25-20.

WHITKO FALLS: Central Noble wins in 3 games

ALBION — It was unfortunate that on a night in Albion when the Central Noble volleyball team was raising money for breast cancer, it was an illness that played a big factor in a match against Whitko. The Lady Wildcats went in to the match against Central Noble without senior outside hitter Tressa Keim who was out with an illness.

SOUTH WHITLEY — Columbia City’s volleyball team came into Saturday’s Whitko Invitational with two very distinct goals. The first goal was to avenge a loss to the Garrett Lady Railroaders from earlier in the season. The second was to defend their two –time tournament championship. The Lady Eagles accomplished both of those goals, downing the Lady Railroaders in straight games on their way to a pool win and a come-from-behind third straight tournament title.

FORT WAYNE — Columbia City’s girls cross country team, along with male counterpart Andrew McFarland, will be headed to Saturday’s regional meet at West Noble after advancing from the weekend’s sectional at Northrop.

The Churubusco Eagles triumphed over the West Noble Chargers 7-6 Friday night. Although the Eagles posted a low score, they would be hard pressed to pick a better played or more exciting game this season.

COLUMBIA CITY — For the past several games, the knock on the Columbia City football team is that it hasn’t been able to put together a complete game, with one half or the other leading to a loss.

Friday night, the Eagles got a taste of what it would be like to put together two solid halves of football.

Columbia City pushed the Class 6A, No. 4-ranked (AP) Carroll Chargers to overtime before falling 41-35 on Senior Night at the Max Gandy Athletic Field.
