WILDCAT VICTORY: Whitko boys win quad meet

SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko picked up wins in seven events to down Northfield, Manchester and Lakeland Christian in a four-way boys’ home track meet Tuesday night.

Whitko’s boys picked up 98.5 points to top Northfield, who scored 85.5. Manchester was third with 58 points, and Lakeland Christian fourth with 1 point.

5 INNING WIN: Whitko downs Triton

SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko’s baseball team handled Triton 12-1 in five innings Tuesday night behind a 10-run explosion from its offense in the fourth inning.

After the first inning ended with a scoreless tie, the game remained close after three with a 2-1 Wildcat lead. The Triton Trojans struggled to contain Whitko batters in the fourth, allowing 10 runs before ending the Wildcat rally.

3-WAY: Col. City girls take second

COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s girls placed second in a three-way meet with Northeast Hoosier Conference foes New Haven and East Noble. East Noble scored 74 points to Columbia City’s 54, with New Haven finishing third with 38 points.

The Lady Eagles started the meet with a win in the 3,200-meter relay. The team of Morgan Von Seggern, Samina Qureshi, Lauren Keller and Hannah Wappes finished in 10:46 for the win. Wappes also picked up a win in the 800-meter run.

SOUTH WHITLEY — Monday night in South Whitley, Whitko’s Haley Yohe smacked a double in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead Whitko to a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Oak Hill.

COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s girls tennis team played host to Whitko High School Monday night at DeVol Field.

The Lady Eagles took wins in all matches but one, winning by a 4-1 score.

'BUSCO WINS: Eagles advance in tourney

CHURUBUSCO — Churubusco’s Eagle baseball team used an outstanding pitching performance by Jacob Howe and just enough offense to send the Hamilton Marines down to a 5-0 defeat in the opening game of the the 2015 Northeast Corner Conference baseball tournament Monday night at Churubusco.

Howe faced only 23 batters, two over the minimum, while pitching a one-hit shutout of the Marines. Howe also recorded 13 strikeouts in the seven innings.

TRACK: Col. City boys run at Goshen

GOSHEN —Columbia City’s boys’ track team competed in a cold and rainy Goshen Relays Saturday. The Eagles competed in the small school division placing 14th out of 20 schools with a score of 41.5 points.

The Eagles were paced by two first-place finishes. In the sprint medley relay, the Columbia City team of Heath Atkins, Noah Judd, Tim Hearld and Andrew McFarland took the win in a time of 1:39.5.

13 TO 9: ’Busco baseball downs West Noble

LIGONIER — Churubusco’s baseball team took a 13-9 win over the host West Noble Chargers Friday evening.
The Eagles used a strong offense, highlighted by two four-run innings to down the Chargers.

West Noble broke on top, getting a single run in the bottom of the first inning. Churubusco came back to put up four runs in the top of the second to go up 4-1.

CONCORDIA GOLF INVITATIONAL: Col. City golf takes third

FORT WAYNE — No. 16-ranked Columbia City took third at Saturday’s Concordia Golf Invitational at the Foster Park golf course.

The Eagles shot 312, placing behind Leo and Bishop Dwenger, who both scored 301. When the tie couldn’t be broken on the fifth golfer’s score, the top five for Leo and Dwenger went out for a one-hole playoff to decide the winner.

TURTLE TOWN CLASSIC: ’Busco girls host invite

CHURUBUSCO — Churubusco’s girls track team hosted the Turtle Town Classic invitational Saturday, despite blowing rain and cool temperatures.

The host team placed fifth in the Black division, comprised of smaller schools.
