Whitko softball falls to North Miami, Rochester

SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko’s softball team fell in two Three Rivers Conference games earlier this week.

The Lady Wildcats lost to North Miami Monday. The host-Lady Warriors beat the Lady Wildcats by a final score of 10-0.

The Lady Wildcats dropped their senior night contest Wednesday to Rochester, 14-0.

Whitko golf splits match

NORTH MANCHESTER — Whitko’s boys golf team took second in a three-way meet at Sycamore Golf Club.

The Wildcats shot 164. Tippecanoe Valley scored 164 as well, and the tie was broken by the score of the fifth golfer. Manchester came in third with a total of 186.

Lady Eagles defeat Central Noble, 4-3

ALBION — Churubusco’s softball team captured a conference win Thursday.

The Lady Eagles beat NECC-rival Central Noble, getting the final run in the seventh inning to get the 4-3 victory.

Both teams got one run in the first inning. The next score did not come all the way until the top of the fifth, when the Lady Eagles put two more on the board to make it 3-1.

Whitko’s Alfieri, Marshall on to regional

WARSAW — For most of the team, Whitko’s girls tennis season came to an end Thursday night, as the Lady Eagles dropped a close 3-2 contest to Wawasee in the opening round of sectionals.

But it’s not all over yet.

The No. 1 doubles pair of Laura Alfieri and Abby Marshall won their match over Wawasee, qualifying to move on to the regional with Columbia City’s Celine Rongos in singles, and the doubles pair of Sydney Ford and Macie Hinen.

Alfieri and Marshall took a 6-2, 6-0 advantage over Lady Warriors Jada Antonides and Sam Prins.

Tracksters advance to next round

FORT WAYNE — Girls tracksters had their shot at qualifying for the regional Tuesday, and the boys took their turn at Thursday’s sectionals.

Churubusco’s athletes competed at North Side, while Whitko and Columbia City headed back to Wayne for the second year in a row.

Two tracksters had standout performances — Whitko’s Connor Stouder and Churubusco’s Austin McClure.

McClure took first place in both of his throwing events.

He won the discus with a heave of 152 feet, 2 inches — 10 feet more than his closest opponent.

Whitko JV splits pair

SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko’s junior varsity baseball team split a pair of games this week with area rivals.

Whitko fell to TRC-foe Wabash Monday, 7-5, but came back to beat Peru, 13-1 Tuesday.

Brady Weeks started his first career game for the Wildcats against Wabash. He gave up four earned runs and pitched all six innings.

Lady ’Cat JV finishes with strong victory

SOUTH WHITLEY— Whitko’s junior varsity softball team capped its season with two big wins earlier this week.

The first was a tight 11-10 win over Heritage Saturday that ended with a seventh inning walkoff hit.

Adrianna Holst of Whitko singled to start the bottom of the seventh against Heritage.

Eagle golf drops close match to DeKalb

AUBURN — Columbia City’s golf team fell in a tight Northeast Hoosier Conference match Tuesday at Bridgewater West.

The Eagles fell by four strokes, 165-169 to DeKalb.

The Barons’ top linkster, Spencer Shoemaker, paced the match by scoring a 36, one over par.

Columbia City’s Tyler Green scored a 39, and Spencer Klimek finished with a 40.

Whitko wins TRC game

SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko’s baseball team won a 10-2 contest over Three Rivers Conference foe Rochester Wednesday night in South Whitley.

Ethan Nicodemus led the Wildcats from both the mound and the plate in the win.

Nicodemus struck out six, while only giving up one earned run and four hits.

From the plate, he batted 4-for-4, with four RBIs, two runs and a stolen base.

Nicodemus began his tear in the first inning, when he batted in teammate Alex Stoddard to take a 1-0 lead.

Col. City wins county rivalry

COLUMBIA CITY — It was the battle of the Lady Eagles at Morsches Park Wednesday night, as Columbia City’s softball team hosted Churubusco for a county-rivalry game.

Columbia City came out on top with a 6-1 win.

Allie Vodde knocked her second home run in two games for Columbia City.
The hosts picked up their first run in the second inning, and tacked on three more in the third.

Columbia City scored its final runs in the fourth frame to take a 6-0 lead.
