Whitko junior varsity undefeated after 11

SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko’s junior varsity softball team is 11-0 for the season, and four of those wins came this week.

The Lady Wildcats won four straight days, Monday through Thursday, defeating Huntington North, North Miami, Central Noble and Carroll, respectively.

Monday, Whitko downed Huntington North, 15-5. Adrianna Holst struck out five while picking up the win in the circle for the Lady ‘Cats. Whitko had six extra-base hits in the game.

Eagle baseball still leads conference

COLUMBIA CITY — It was altogether fitting that on Thursday’s senior night that the Columbia City Eagle Baseball team got standout performances from its senior leaders in the Northeast Hoosier Conference game with the visiting New Haven Bulldogs.

The Eagles used a dominating pitching performance from senior Jordan Bickle and multiple extra-base hits from seniors Derek Hinen, Andrew Biggs and Austin McCormick to hang a 14-1 loss on the Bulldogs.

Bickle turned in an outstanding game on the mound for the Eagles.

Wildcats control Anderson

ANDERSON — Whitko’s baseball team traveled to Anderson Prep School Thursday night and took a decisive 14-2 win.

Tanner Gaff led the Wildcats from the mound and the plate.

Gaff pitched four innings, giving up one earned run and striking out nine. From the plate, Gaff batted 3-for-4, scoring three runs and two RBIs.

Ryan Weigold finished up on the mound for Whitko, pitching the fifth and final inning, giving up one of Anderson’s seven hits.

Weigold also batted well, going 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs.

Lady Eagles sweep New Haven

COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s tennis team swept a Northeast Hoosier Conference foe Thursday, defeating New Haven 5-0.

The Lady Eagles took the win on a special fundraising night. Columbia City’s girls tennis team, led by Head Coach Kathleen Myers, raised money for Isaac Rentschler, a second grader who was recently diagnosed with cancer.

Isaac, a student of Myers’, is currently undergoing treatment for a form of eye cancer.

The Lady Eagles honored Isaac in prime fashion, with Celine Rongos and Adriana Brown taking sweeping 6-0, 6-0 wins in No. 1 and No. 3 singles.

Col. City golf wins second straight

COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s golf team won its second match in two days Thursday night, topping Leo by a 159-171 score.

Freshmen Eagles Tyler Green and Spencer Klimek were co-medalists, scoring 37 apiece.

Green shot a birdie on Eagle Glen’s No. 2 hole, a par 3. Klimek didn’t have more than five strokes through the entire front nine, including a three on hole No. 7.

Columbia City’s Cameron Slavich outdid Klimek on hole 7, scoring a two to help him to a total of 44.

Wildcats golf beats Rochester

MANCHESTER — Whitko’s boys golf team picked up a conference win against Rochester Wednesday.

The Wildcats beat visiting Rochester 167-181 at Sycamore Golf Club.

Leading the way for Whitko was Danny Zawlocki, who shot 40 to earn medalist honors. Colton LeTourneau was next for Whitko at 42. Cole Bechtold carded 43 and Will Peters shot 44. Jacob Silveus scored 47 and Matt Hathaway shot 52.

All told, the top four Whitko golfers beat or tied the top Rochester golfer.

Whitko will next be at the Northfield Invitational Saturday in Wabash.

Lady Wildcats drop slugfest to Tippy

MENTONE — Whitko’s softball team lost a shootout to TRC-rival Tippecanoe Valley Tuesday.

The Lady Wildcats fell to the Lady Vikings by a score of 15-14.

It was the first conference game of the year for the Lady Wildcats.

Whitko soared at the plate, crushing 20 hits in the contest. Tiffany Ousley was 3-for-5, including a two-run homer in the sixth inning that broke a 10-10 tie.

Christa Baughman was 2-of-5 with a double and five RBIs.

Hannah Himes was 2-for-4 with a double and three runs scored.

’Cats baseball pummels Manchester; falls to Tippy Valley

MANCHESTER — Whitko’s baseball team won an 11-0 shut out Wednesday night to Three Rivers Conference foe Manchester.

The ’Cats tacked on nine runs in the sixth and seventh innings to take the lopsided win.

Alex Stoddard pitched all seven frames for Whitko, throwing a one-hit shut out, as Manchester managed one hit. Stoddard struck out five and walked four. He also batted 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs.

Col. City baseball falls 17-1

COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s baseball team ran into a meat grinder Wednesday. The Eagles were defeated 17-1 at home by Leo in five innings.

The Lions got to the Columbia City pitchers for 13 hits and seven walks. The Eagles didn’t help themselves out by committing five errors on defense.

Columbia City didn’t do much on offense, either. The Eagles managed three hits and three walks.

Lady Eagle tennis takes win over Leo, 4-1

LEO — Columbia City’s girls tennis team got a big win against Leo Wednesday.

It was a 4-1 win for the Lady Eagles over the Lady Lions. Celine Rongos of Columbia City defeated Jen Timbrook of Leo, 6-2, 6-1 in number-one singles.

In number-three singles, Adriana Brown of Columbia City beat Lea Hughbanks 6-4 and 2-1 before Hughbanks retired.
