Lady Wildcats’ ‘O’ffense leads way in opener

   SOUTH WHITLEY — The best offense was a good pitcher Tuesday for Whitko softball.
   Opening the 2011 season at home, the Lady Wildcats took a 5-3 lead into the top of the seventh inning against Oak Hill.
   After the tying run reached base, Whitko’s Karissa Olinske clinched the win forcing three consecutive outs.  She had six strikeouts on the night.
   Olinske, or ‘O’ as they like to call her, added to the Whitko offense recording a triple.

Churubusco sweeps night at home over Norsemen

Churubusco swept a home meet Monday night against Northfield. The Lady Eagles topped the Lady Norsemen 115--17 while the Eagles beat Northfield 98-34. Above, the ’Busco hurdles crew take the top three spots in the 110-meter high hurdles. From left, Kyle Monk, Austin Boggess and the event winner Josh LeFever. Both Churubusco teams will host Heritage Wednesday for one final meet before spring break.

Four-peat in Wildcat sights

There is one thing that comes up almost daily around Whitko boys track and field.
Repeat.
Not just any repeat but a fourth consecutive Three Rivers Conference championship.
It’s a broken record that the Wildcats hopes stays that way for another season.
“One of the things we’re hoping to do is make it four in a row,” Whitko head coach Ron Cherry said. “That’s our goal that the kids say almost daily. We get together and they yell ‘four-peat.’”
For eight seniors, a conference title is all they’ve ever experienced. According to Cherry, the winning never gets old.

’Cats search for solutions: Whitko works to fill void of injured top points scorer

   It was all going according to plan for Mark Rickerd and Whitko girls’ track and field team as offseason workouts continued through January.
   A good mix of seniors along with past conference champions joined a talented freshmen class.
   Atop the group of returners was hurdler Micaela Sylvester coming back for her third season with the Lady Wildcats. Sylvester made an immediate impact as a freshman and was Whitko’s top points scorer in 2010 as a sophomore.
