5-0 SWEEP: Eagle netters swept by Manchester

CHURUBUSCO — Churubusco’s boys tennis team fell in a 5-0 match to Manchester. The Eagles suffered difficult losses, including several sweeps.
Playing the most competitive match was Luke Lillmars in No. 1 singles. Lillmars fell 6-4, 6-2 to Manchester’s Connor Eichenauer.

17 SAVES IN LOSS: Lady Wildcats fall to Rochester, 4-1

ROCHESTER — Whitko’s girls soccer team traveled to Rochester Wednesday night and fell 4-1 to the Three Rivers Conference foe. Whitko’s lone goal was scored by Riley Insley in the first half, but the Lady Zebras tallied three goals in the first half and tacked on another in the second half for the win. Whitko goalkeeper Ilyssa Bennett posted 17 saves in the loss.

POINT-FOR-POINT: ’Busco volleyball tops Whitko in close match

SOUTH WHITLEY — Churubusco’s volleyball team traveled cross-county to South Whitley to take on the Lady Wildcats Tuesday night. The Lady Eagles picked up the win in a close, five-game match with Whitko.

HOTEL FITNESS: Championship tees off today

FORT WAYNE — Web.com’s Hotel Fitness Championship in Fort Wayne opens with the first round of golf today. Tee times began at 7:30 a.m. and the match will be aired on the Golf Channel. The championship consists of four rounds, with the final round on Sunday, weather permitting.
The Hotel Fitness Championship is held at Sycamore Hills Golf Club.

COUNTY RIVALS: Eagles, ’Cats bring opposite styles to Friday’s game

SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko and Columbia City are bringing two different styles of play to Friday night’s county-rivalry match up in South Whitley. Columbia City brings a competitive passing game, while Whitko ran much of its season opener on the ground last week.

Whitko quarterback Garrett Elder had a strong performance on the ground in the Wildcats’ season opener against Wawasee last week. Elder was the leading ballcarrier with 168 of Whitko’s 312 rushing yards, including an 80-yard break-away run for a touchdown.

EAGLES FALL IN FOUR: Col. City volleyball handed first loss

COLUMBIA CITY — The Columbia City Lady Eagle Volleyball Team came into Tuesday night’s home contest with the Garrett Lady Railroaders sporting an undefeated 2-0 record, thanks to some good play against both North Side and in a come-from-behind win against Angola.

HOT STREAK: Lady Eagles top Huntington

COLUMBIA CITY — The Columbia City Lady Eagle golf team continued its hot streak Tuesday night, with four girls recording scores in the 40s, the Lady Eagles downed the visiting Huntington North Lady Vikings 187-205 under gray and dripping skies on the front nine of the Eagle Glen course.
