OSSIAN — It was a tale of two halves at Norwell’s opening-round sectional game between Whitko and Bellmont Tuesday night.
The Wildcats opened up the first half scoring a slim four points, but tore the game open in the final two quarters, multiplying their score by more than 10 and topping the Braves, 41-35.
“We came out and played with a sense of urgency,” Whitko head coach Scott Wessel said. “At halftime, I just told them to go out and play hard.”
While the Wildcats’ offensive turn-around was impressive, Wessel touted the teams stingy defense, that only allowed two points in the third quarter.
“Our defensive intensity was much better in the third quarter,” Wessel said. “We were great.”
With a 16-4 deficit going into the locker room at halftime, Whitko went on a 17-0 run with buckets from Stephen Bennett, Trey Weber, Gabe Powell, Cole Kessie and Alex Stoddard.
