2 COUNTY WRECKS: 5 injured in weekend crashes

June 24, 2013

COLUMBIA CITY — A pair of crashes in Whitley County sent 5 people to the hospital.

On Hartman Road, east of Columbia City, two men were hurt after their vehicle caught on fire from a crash at 4:51 a.m. Saturday.

Troy Adams, 29, of Columbia City, and Wesley Crowell, 33, also of Columbia City, were found lying on the side of Hartman Road with their vehicle, a recently purchased Dodge Challenger, fully engulfed in flames.

Live power lines were down and a utility pole was also on fire.

According to a case report, Adams and Crowell remember seeing the intersection at Hartman Road and County Road 300 East — but don’t remember anything else until waking up with the car on fire, needing to get out.

Adams was charged by Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputy Brandon Smith for operating while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury, disregarding a stop sign and operating as a habitual traffic offender — a case report was submitted to the Whitley County Prosecutor’s Office Monday morning.
