COLUMBIA CITY — Whitley County’s new 911 system just went online last month, but there is an issue that still needs to be addressed.
Scott Jones, 911 director, reported to the Whitley County Commissioners Monday that the voice recorder currently in place records sound only, not text, video or any other way a person may message contact dispatchers with the new 911 system.
He met with the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department and Prosecutor’s Office. The three groups, including the 911 department, agreed to split the approximate $25,000-$30,000 cost equally, according to Jones. He was requesting permission to do that for his department.
The commissioners spoke in support of the measure, but said they wanted to get everything they could from this purchase.
