ACADEMIC RECOGNITION: Local students recognized

WHITLEY COUNTY — Various colleges and university honored Whitley County students for their academic success.
Recognition went to:
Ohio Northern

Ellen L. Hazelet, daughter of Bruce and Kathleen Hazelet, 3651 S. Washington Rd, Columbia City, has been named to the Ohio Northern University deans’ list for the spring semester 2012-13. She is a sixth year majoring in pharmacy.
The deans’ list includes students who attain a grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 grading system.
Trine Univ.

Local students were named to the Trine University School of Professional Studies president’s list for spring 2013.
To be named to the president’s list, a student must take at least 12 credit hours and have at least a 3.75 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
The following local students received president’s list honors:
•Kristi Uecker, of Churubusco, majoring in management.
•Melanie Kennedy, of Columbia City, majoring in accounting.
•Jeremy Caudill, of Roanoke, majoring in emergency management.
•Danielle Angel, of Fort Wayne, majoring in health care management.
•Caroline Fogle, of Fort Wayne, majoring in psychology.
•Jessica Hernandez, of Fort Wayne, majoring in criminal justice.
•Matthew Phillips, of Fort Wayne, majoring in accounting.
•Angelica Hall, of Columbia City, majoring in communication.
Several local students were named to the Trine University president’s list for the spring 2013 semester.
To be named to the president’s list, a student must have at least a 3.75 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and carry at least 15 credit hours.
The following local students received president’s list honors:
•Dustin Arvola of Churubusco, a junior majoring in mechanical engineering.
•Shelby Ditto of Roanoke, a junior majoring in General Business.
•Clinton Zorger of Columbia City, a junior majoring in mechanical engineering.
Purdue Univ.

Purdue University Calumet students have qualified academically for the university’s spring semester dean’s list.
Students who have completed 12 credit hours, including at least six during the fall semester, qualified for the dean’s list by sustaining an overall grade point average of at least 3.5 and a semester grade point average of at least 3.0 (4.0 scale).
Local students earning the honor include:

•Sarah L. Raber Hartman of Columbia City
•Laurie L. Smith Nierman of Columbia City

St. Mary’s College

Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, named the following students to the dean’s list for the spring 2013 semester:
•Emma Derheimer, daughter of Michael and Doris Derheimer of Columbia City
To earn academic honors at Saint Mary’s, a student must achieve a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.6 on a 4.0 scale, have at least 12 graded credit hours, no incompletes, and no grades lower than a C

Local Huntington University students participated in the 115th commencement exercises on May 18.
•Christina Dawson-Branning is a 2013 July graduate from Columbia City. Dawson-Branning earned an Associate of Science in Organizational Management.
•Misty Hart is a 2013 January graduate from Columbia City. Hart earned an Associate of Science in Organizational Management.
•Jill Slavich is a 2013 July graduate from Columbia City. Slavich earned an Associate of Science in Organizational Management.
•Bethany Cabiya is a 2013 May graduate from Columbia City. Cabiya earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
•Tony Crowe is a 2013 July graduate from Columbia City. Crowe earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
•Melissa Hall is a 2013 July graduate from Columbia City. Hall earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
•Ginger Hicks-Mills is a 2013 July graduate from Larwill. Hicks-Mills earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management and Business Administration.
•Tonya Horvath is a 2013 July graduate from Columbia City. Horvath earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
•Joetta Jenkins is a 2013 July graduate from Columbia City. Jenkins earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
•Amy Matchett is a 2013 July graduate from Columbia City.
Matchett earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
•Michelle Simmons is a 2013 July graduate from Columbia City.

•Holly Restemayer is a 2013 January graduate from Columbia City. Restemayer earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in Nursing.
•Jane Trump is a 2013 July graduate from South Whitley. Trump earned a Master of Education in Elementary Reading.
•Sabrina Waterfield is a 2013 July graduate from South Whitley. Waterfield earned a Master of Education in Adolescent & Young Adult English.
