A.D. RECOGNIZED: Penrod honored nationally

January 10, 2012

COLUMBIA CITY — The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) awards NFHS Citations to one athletic director from each of the eight regions the country is divided into.

Last month at the National Athletic Director’s Conference in Indianapolis, Columbia City High School Athletic Director Geoff Penrod received just such a citation for Region IV.

Penrod, along with athletic directors from the four other states in the region, were nominated. Citations are presented annually to outstanding athletic directors in recognition of contributions to interscholastic athletics at the local, state and national levels.

State associations first nominate athletic directions for NFHS Citations, and those nominations are sent to the NFHS Board of Directors, who then approves recipients.

Despite having enjoyed a heavily decorated career, Penrod said the award is still humbling. “This one is very special to me because only eight athletic directors in the nation get it,” Penrod said.
