PIERCETON — A vote to reconstruct Whitko Community School Corporation’s administrative office in Pierceton passed 4 to 1.
As construction plans and designs are beginning for a new Pierceton Elementary School, the district had the opportunity to revisit where the administrative offices should be located.
Currently the offices are attached to Pierceton Elementary School, but with the current structure slated to be demolished and replaced with a new elementary school, board members discussed in September the possibility of moving the corporation’s offices to a more central locale.
At the September meeting, four school board members were adamant that the offices be kept in Pierceton.
Some of their positive reasoning centered around cost and tradition. Considering the district’s central offices have been at PES for some time, board members chose to leave the location be.
The other bonus for board members was cost. Constructing a new administrative building could be added in the cost to build PES, instead of securing new funding for a location elsewhere.
However, School Board President Jorell Tucker spoke against the offices staying in Pierceton. In September he spoke of the office’s accessibility for those living in the far corners of the district.
