Adrian R. Beers, 89, of Columbia City, died at 4:40 a.m. Friday, June 15, 2012, at Parkview Whitley Hospital where he was admitted on Wednesday.
He was born Sept. 23, 1922, in Etna Township, a son of Keslar R. and Nellie R. (Dobbin) Beers. He graduated from Larwill High School in 1940.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Dec. 8, 1942, serving during World War II. Following his discharge on Nov. 7, 1945, he returned to his employment in Crestline, Ohio with the Pennsylvania Railroad.
On Jan. 18, 1947, he married Ruth I. Roberts. They made their home in Crestline for two years before moving to Etna Township where they operated the Etna General Store.
A farmer, he also worked at Weatherhead, drove a school bus for Etna Troy School from 1968 until 1971, served as Etna Troy Township Trustee from 1972 until 1975, and retired from L. M. & L. in 1984. In 1993, Adrian & Ruth moved to Columbia City.
His memberships include Columbia City United Methodist Church, Etna Menâ€™s Breakfast Club and American Legion Post #98.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Ruth; two daughters, Lucinda R. Beers and Lynette C. Beers, both of Columbia City and a grandson, Lance (Tami) Beers, of Columbia City.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
The burial will be in South Park Annex Cemetery with military honors presented by the Whitley County Korean War Veterans Honor Guard.
