October 11, 2012

COLUMBIA CITY — Thirty-one-year-old Matthew S. Shepherd, of Mentone, appeared in Whitley County Circuit Court Tuesday for an initial hearing on a charge of check deception, following his arrest from the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department Saturday.
According to a press release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Sergeant Chad Hill said Shepherd was arrested by Warsaw police on 15 active warrants for check deception. These warrants date back to 2001, from bad checks totaling $3,805.
In Whitley County, Shepherd is charged with check deception, a Class A misdemeanor, after he is alleged to have written a check on Wells Fargo Bank to Wal-Mart in the amount of $63.42 in September of 2001.
Shepherd was later released on bail Saturday from Kosciusko County, and booked in the Whitley County Jail that same afternoon.
According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Shepherd is also wanted for warrants in Carroll and Fulton counties. His pre-trial conference is set for Nov. 5.
