COLUMBIA CITY â€” Thirty-one-year-old Matthew S. Shepherd, of Mentone, appeared in Whitley County Circuit Court Tuesday for an initial hearing on a charge of check deception, following his arrest from the Whitley County Sheriffâ€™s Department Saturday.
According to a press release from the Kosciusko County Sheriffâ€™s Department, Sergeant Chad Hill said Shepherd was arrested by Warsaw police on 15 active warrants for check deception. These warrants date back to 2001, from bad checks totaling $3,805.
In Whitley County, Shepherd is charged with check deception, a Class A misdemeanor, after he is alleged to have written a check on Wells Fargo Bank to Wal-Mart in the amount of $63.42 in September of 2001.
Shepherd was later released on bail Saturday from Kosciusko County, and booked in the Whitley County Jail that same afternoon.
According to the Kosciusko County Sheriffâ€™s Department, Shepherd is also wanted for warrants in Carroll and Fulton counties. His pre-trial conference is set for Nov. 5.
