Applauding community spirit: Foundation presents hearts of gold

November 22, 2013

COLUMBIA CITY — Thirty-two community members were honored with the Whitley County Community Foundation’s Heart of Gold Award.

The annual award is presented to those in the county who exhibit a passion for bettering the community through volunteer work.

“I hope tonight is a rest stop in our busy schedules,” said September McConnell, director for the WCCF. “Tonight is about saying ‘thank you.’ We love this program. It honors the unsung heroes who were just going about doing what they thought needed to be done. However, to someone, you are making all the difference in the world.”

The group of nominees were made up of school teachers, retired professionals, businessmen and women, and other county residents.
