Audrey Barker, 84

Audrey I. Barker, 84, of South Whitley, died at 1:25 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7, 2011 at Peabody Home, North Manchester where she had been a resident since November 2009.
She was born Oct. 11, 1926 in Collamer, a daughter of Reed and Ida Irene (Ribett) Brower. Her formative years were spent in the Collamer area. She graduated from South Whitley High School.
On May 6, 1944 she was united in marriage to Lester Lewis Barker. They made their home on a farm northwest of South Whitley. Mr. Barker died June 4, 1994.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in South Whitley.
Surviving relatives include six children, Diane Prescott of Jacksonville, Fla., Raymond (Virginia) Barker of Syracuse, Sandra Byrd of Churubusco, Patricia (James) Schneider of North Manchester, Lester (Cindy) Barker of South Whitley and Kevin (Renee) Barker of Pierceton; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Leola Williamson of South Whitley; and a brother, Harold Brower of Columbia City.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucille LaRue, Mary Lou Keppler and Ruth Joan Combs; and two brothers, Richard Brower and Alvin Brower.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley. The burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to Alzheimer’s Association.
