AWARD WINNERS: Accolades abound at 4-H achievement night

COLUMBIA CITY — Thunderous applause and a standing ovation greeted Tom Zeisig as he accepted the 2013 Friend of 4-H Award.

Zeisig was nominated for the honor because of his tireless volunteer efforts with Whitley County’s 4-H program.

Also garnering an award was Matt Gibson. He received the 2013 Adult Leadership Award for work in developing a 4-H program that ensures growth and education in its youth participants.

A host of other awards and recognition was given to adult leaders, volunteers and 4-Hers Monday night at the annual Achievement Program.

The following awards were presented:

•Kroger Culinary Award — Hailey Arnold
•Blue Ribbon Barn Awards — Horse & Pony, Goat, Rabbit, Poultry and Dairy Clubs
•County Achievement Books — Senior Champion-Sarah Palmer, Junior Champion-Lena Alt, Senior Reserve Champion-Veronica Palmer and Junior Reserve Champion-Cory Palmer.
•Science Workshop Delegates — Hannah Bridgegam, Rhiannon Schaeffer, Ben Western, Rebecca Lilly and Sarah Palmer.
•Indiana Key Club Award — Jared Lamle
•State 4-H Career Development Contest-Judging — Amber Ferrell, Drew Lamle, Robbie Sheets and Jennifer Hosler.
•State Band — Justin Sheets, Ben Western and Laura Peterson
