AWARDED: WCCF announces grants

COLUMBIA CITY — Thanks to the continued generosity of local donors who have given to the Whitley County Community Foundation, 10 local organizations were recently awarded a total of $24,850 in grants. The Board of Directors approved the following funding recommendations made by the 10-member Grants Committee.
• The Columbia City High School Fine Arts Department, $7,500 toward the cost of upgrading the current lighting system in the auditorium at CCHS.
• B.A.B.E. of Whitley County Inc.,$3,000 for inventory items.
• The Whitley County Humane Society, $2,500 toward the costs veterinary surgical equipment to perform on site spay and neutering.
• Whitley County Historical Society, $2,000 to be used toward research and creating narratives, scripts, and videos on ten “local legends” historical characters in Whitley County.
• The Scottish Cultural Society, $2,100 - to be used toward the 26th annual Indiana Highland Games in Whitley County.
• Junior Achievement of Northern Indiana, $1,500 toward expenses associated with offering two “Success Skills” programs at Columbia City High School in the 2012-2013 school year.
• Whitley County Autumn Art Festival, $1,200 to offset expenses of the annual event; made possible with funding from The Arts Alive Endowment.
• The Fort Wayne Philharmonic,$1,000 to be used toward the costs of offering educational instrumental ensemble performances serving 1,736 Whitley County students.
• The Potter’s Hand, $600 — toward the purchase of materials to build wheelchair ramps for people in need in our community; made possible by the Donald Ferber Fund.
• Camp Watcha-Wanna-Do, $200 to help underwrite a one week summer camp for children who are cancer survivors; made possible by the Whitley County Caner Care Fund.
In addition to these awards, the Community Foundation recently made a number of grants to local programs and projects that encourage STEM Education as part of our WhitelyForward initiative.
