COLUMBIA CITY — Beds And Britches, Etc. (B.A.B.E.) of Whitley County is having an unusual fundraising campaign that has baby bottles being filled with money.
“April is our biggest fundraising month all year,” said Shawn Ellis, executive director of B.A.B.E. “We have 17 churches and many banks all over Whitley County collecting money in our baby bottles for our program.”
The baby bottles will be out in the community until April 30. B.A.B.E. is also having a raffle for $1,200 travel voucher redeemable through Odyssey Travel. Tickets are $10 each or three for $25. Only 400 tickets will be sold.
The most exciting thing B.A.B.E. is doing is the 4th Annual B.A.B.E. Give that includes the following activities. There is the Diaper Drive hosted by Whitley County Chiropractic and Wellness Center. From now until April 30 clients can donate a package of diapers and receive a discount on adjustments.
Several preschools and day cares are hosting the Sock and Sippy Cup Drives. A baby shower is happening at STAR Insurance April 13. A Zumba-Thon is scheduled from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. April 28 at the Whitley County YMCA.
Within Whitley County, 40 different agencies give out B.A.B.E. vouchers for coupons. The coupons can be redeemed for free for various items for babies and children.
Sixty percent of B.A.B.E.’s expenses is funded by grants applied for by Ellis. With garage sale season upon us it’s important that people realize that last summer B.A.B.E. opened up Stages, a used clothing store.
With garage sale prices, there is something available for all families. People wanting to donate used baby, children or junior clothing will receive a tax receipt.
There is a need for volunteers during store hours. Volunteers can help clean, fold and sort the items. Call Ellis at (260) 244-2820 or e-mail her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The only other fundraiser for B.A.B.E. happens during the Whitley County 4-H Fair with B.A.B.E.’s annual Baby Contest in a tent near the main concession stand on the fairgrounds.
A new fundraising event is being planned and will be announced later this year.
