Barbara S. Long, 60, of rural South Whitley, died at 1:55 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, 2010 at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. She had been battling cancer since October 2008.
She was born Nov. 3, 1949 in Fort Wayne, a daughter of Charles C. and Lucille V. (Smith) Fudge. Her formative years were spent in Allen County. She graduated from Churubusco High School and received her Registered Nursing degree from IPFW.
On Nov. 1, 1970 she was united in marriage to Daniel B. Long. They made their home in North Webster for a year before moving to their home southwest of South Whitley in 1971.
A registered nurse, she was employed at Whitley County Memorial Hospital for 23 years, Grace Village for five years and Anthony Medical for five years.
She was active in the ministries of First Church of God and with her membership with the Theta Kappa Chapter of Delta Theta Tau where she served many offices.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Dan; two children, Timothy (Laura) Long of South Whitley and Annette (Kevin) Kinnison of Fort Wayne; five grandchildren, Hali Kessie Long, Nicolas Whitmyer, Kenzie Kinnison, Andrew Long and Karlee Kinnison; a brother, Stanley E. Fudge of Roscoe, Ill.; and a sister, Linda L. (Greg) Smith of Fort Wayne.
A Celebration of Life service is at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Church of God, 1200 W. Depoy Drive, Columbia City with visitation after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church. The burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery.
Visitation will also be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with a Delt service at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
