COLUMBIA CITY — A Churubusco man accused of four meth-related crimes appeared in Whitley County Circuit Court for the first time Monday.
Christopher Bell, 26, was arrested April 12 for unlawful sale of precursors, possession of chemicals with intent to manufacture meth, maintaining a common nuisance and possession of paraphernalia.
Bell’s next court date is May 20, and Whitley County Public Defender Brad Voelz will be his attorney.
According to case reports, Bell was booked on an unrelated charge earlier this year. As soon as he was released, he began purchasing pseudoephedrine.
Chad Sweet was in court for his initial hearing Monday.
Sweet was charged with dealing a schedule II controlled substance, a Class B felony. Sweet, 36, of Columbia City, was arrested Sunday. Earlier in April, witnesses allege they saw Sweet and another man in the men’s restroom at Duff’s.
The two were allegedly snorting a powdery substance off of a toilet lid.
Columbia City Police Chief Tim Longenbaugh said an officer had been called to the scene to investigate a drunk and disorderly person in the parking lot who had thrown a beer bottle.
While that officer was there, Longenbaugh said a witness approached and said there was drug activity going on in the restroom.
Sweet will be back in court May 20.
