Bench trial set for Tuesday, weather permitting
COLUMBIA CITY — A woman accused of dealing prescription drugs will have a bench trial Tuesday in Whitley County Circuit Court, winter weather permitting.Carrie L. Hammons, 37, of Columbia City, was arrested in late June of 2013 and given two charges of dealing in a Schedule I, II or III controlled substance.Her bench trial Tuesday will begin at 9 a.m. Her attorney is Robert W. Love.Hammons was originally set to have a jury trial. But a motion was made last week to have it changed to a bench trial.Case reports state that the first drug deal allegedly involving Hammons occurred in late March of 2013. Documents indicate Hammons sold 30 pills of oxycodone to a confidential informant working for the Whitley County Drug Task Force. The second exchange was in late April. Hammons allegedly sold 20 pills of oxycodone, at a size of 10 milligrams each, to a confidential informant. Both deals allegedly occurred at the house Hammons was residing on Business 30 in Columbia City.Winter weather closed city and government offices in Whitley County Monday because of extreme cold temperature and blowing and drifting snow.
