Betty M. Ballard, 86, of Columbia City, died at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 26, 2012, at Renaissance Village where she had been a resident since June.
She was born Sept. 4, 1925, in Columbia City, a daughter of Guy and Mabel (Graves) Putman.
She graduated from Columbia City High School in 1943.
On May 28, 1943, she was united in marriage to Delbert Ballard.
They made their home west of Columbia City. Mr. Ballard died in 1975.
She was a sales representative for Avon from 1953 until 1968, and a custodian at Columbia City High School from 1975 until 1990.
Her membership included Eagles #1906 Auxiliary, American Legion Post #98 Auxiliary and Etna Troy Home Extension Club.
Surviving relatives include four children, Robert (Karen) Ballard of Fort Wayne, William Ballard of Indianapolis, Ronald (Cinda) Ballard of Fort Wayne and Debra (David) Roth; four grandchildren; two great- grandchildren and a sister, Helen Carter of Columbia City.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Georgia Ballard; a brother, Robert Putman and a sister, Edith Gregg.
The graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at South Whitley Cemetery.
There will be no public visitation.
Arrangements are being completed by Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.
Preferred memorials are to Camp Whitley.
