Betty Jean Krom, 81

Betty Jean Krom, 81, a resident of South Whitley, died at 10:10 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Columbia City where she had been a resident since Friday.
She was born July 13, 1929 in Thorncreek Township, a daughter of Manuel and Elma (Gaerte) Smith. Her formative years were spent in Thorncreek Township and she attended Thorncreek School.
She was first employed at Dana for 12 years and later Lyle Electric from 1980 until 1990.
Surviving relatives include a son, Rick (Marilyn) Krom of Albion; two daughters, Pamala (Stanley) Kistler of Pierceton and Connie (Stephen) Pressler of Columbia City; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Cherl Adkins, Dorothy Cleland, Ethel Holt, Edith Geyer and Ilean Hippensteel; and three brothers, Otto, Lewis and Franklin Smith.
There will be no visitation or service. A private family burial will take place at a later date at Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.
