COLUMBIA CITY â Children playing at Morsches Park is not an uncommon occurrence on a summer Saturday morning. However, this Saturday, the park will serve two purposes â fun and function.
The Salvation Army of Whitley County has been collecting school supplies for Whitley County children in need. Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon, at Morsches Park in Columbia City, school-aged children can receive supplies to help ease the financial burden parents face when preparing for school to start.
âThere is a big need,â said Pat Mossburg ministries coordinator for the Salvation Army. âLast year we saw about 500 kids, and I expect this year we will see about 600. The need grows every year. As prices go up in other areas, parents need ways to help fill the gap.â
