September 3, 2012

Christopher Gressley and Anita Moore

COLUMBIA CITY — A Warsaw couple was arrested Friday night near South Whitley and booked in the Whitley County jail, but were soon requested by officials in Kosciusko County for a Leesburg armed robbery earlier in the day.
According to a press release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Christopher Alan Gressley, 30, and Anita Lynn Moore, 28, both of Warsaw, were wanted for a Friday afternoon holdup of the Leesburg Freedom Express, which police allege was held up at knife-point.
Police say the knife used in the holdup was found during the Friday evening stop in Whitley County by South Whitley police.
KCSD Public Information Officer Chad Hill reported that South Whitley officers investigated a stopped van outside of town Friday evening.
The officers learned Gressley and Moore each had suspended licenses.
In addition, the officers reported two small children who appeared to be poorly cared for. Child Protective Services was called. Police also reported finding synthetic marijuana and paraphernalia.
Whitley County officials were contacted Saturday regarding the couple’s alleged involvement in the Friday afternoon robbery.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department detectives arrived in Columbia City and interviewed the couple, who reportedly confessed to the Leesburg crime, according to police.
Both Gressley and Moore are being held on preliminary charges of neglect of a dependent, possession of a controlled substance/synthetic marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia.
Gressley was also charged with driving while suspended and currently has a bond of $27,500 while Moore has a bond of $24,000 in Whitley County.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s detectives have also placed a hold on the couple as preliminary charges of felony robbery while armed with a deadly weapon are being issued by the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office.
